Show spoilers, duh.
Because just for once I want the anti-hero to fething win.
Death Note really seemed like Light was going to fuck shit up, but no. No you can't have someone purging the earth of the scum :/

On top of that, the show nosedives when L gets BTFO. It killed off the Holmes/Moriarty thing they had going and the whole justasplanned and replaced it with some precocious little whelp and the CIA. Light turns into a complete nutter and it's just... ugh.

Failed potential in my opinion.
Literally the only good thing about it's ending was that it spawned these.

You will find out who you are not a thousand times, before you ever discover who you are. I hope you find peace in yourself and learn to love instead of hate.

That motherfucker, Teru Mikami, been a damn long time since I've seen the show but I remember that ass being sloppy fucked Light. Fuck that guy, seriously, he's a goddamn piece of shit.
Yeah, I never actually managed to finish it.
I watched up to the bit where Near(?) is trying to be L and I just gave up after several episodes of dissatisfaction. I read the ending on a wiki/watched the original clip rather than the MADs and I was glad I didn't waste more time finding out that it ends badly.

Just, ugh.

I remember someone on Bnet, Burrito I think, saying that the film takes a different path and doesn't end in the same manner so that might be watchable at some point, but ehhh.

It certainly is, even though I detest the way it ends the majority of the show is brilliant.

The chase is what captures it for me. It intrigues me how the chase can seem so smart, and depthful, while still being down-to-Earth for everyone to understand. When I think about it, it's simply brilliant that the ending has a very low impact on how much you can enjoy viewing the anime.

It's too melodramatic and dumb and no it wouldn't suit me. It's a good concept that's been dragged through the mud.

No, it's not failed potential. It used its potential to the fullest, but chose to be realistic, and thus provided a much more hated version that I'm content with.

It'd have been kind of disgusting if Light would've been able to remain his cool-headed- and full-potential self.

Time to study psychology if you fail to realize my point.

Pretty sure that was stated clearly.

Not for me, I think it would have made for a better story. I wouldn't care if it went into the realms of stretching the imagination where he took over the planet/died trying. But instead he dies shrieking like a cat in a shitty warehouse. If he'd kept his head, but been still been taken down with some sort of outsmarting plotline then that would have been much more satisfactory than him just going UUUUUUTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Pretentious and irrelevant.

They both tricked each other, but Near countered Light's counter attack. He chose the day, because he had everything that he needed, and a direct confrontation was the key to securing the catch.

Pretentious? It's just that I'd think that a medical doctor would be content if the main character died due to the damages that he'd received, rather than for no reason other than the plot surviving. A different ending? No, because it all lead down to that "fight".

Read the manga and not the anime. Must say it was good though it was so close to ending. But hated the MC ingnoring that hot chick that devoted herself to him. He also got himself caught in his own trap. But love how his own shinigami killed him off.

It's certainly possible, I think I might see if I can rewatch it. It's been long enough that I've forgotten a bit too much of it so yeah. I'll give it another shot and even if I find it unwatchable after ep 25, I'll see if I can grin and bear it for  science.

I still doubt that I'll actually be content with the ending though, but maybe seeing it fully rather than condensed into two paragraphs may help.

Completely agree, it had a potentially very cool story, but I also think the series went basically downhill after Ls death.

*in my opinion*
Pretty sure that was stated clearly.

Not for me, I think it would have made for a better story. I wouldn't care if it went into the realms of stretching the imagination where he took over the planet/died trying. But instead he dies shrieking like a cat in a shitty warehouse. If he'd kept his head, but been still been taken down with some sort of outsmarting plotline then that would have been much more satisfactory than him just going UUUUUUTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Pretentious and irrelevant.
He basically did take over the world, with all the world leaders stepping down for what he told them, and the people rooting for him.

The ending did have an outsmarting plot line.

Hmm, fair enough. Still not really good enough to satisfy me though, but then I was expected something just an inch short of apotheosis if not that.
Maybe you'd have gotten it if you'd watched it all, but that's an untestable theory by now, I'd say.

In case you skip this scene, remember that he said this way back at the beginning.

OH! That explains everything. You see, when I made this thread, I was thinking about how you didn't really show much feeling toward the ending, so I made the thread so that I could figure out why that was.

Now I know that you thought that way because you hadn't finished it. Thanks for telling me your answer, and disregarding what the thread says, as if the whole thread is solely for your sake.
