If the answer is yes, you have to prove yourself first. If the answer is no, well then I don't know why you expect yourself to be qualified.

on top of not being able to eat all day, i also couldn't swear or get into heated arguments with people for a whole month--and i succeeded

there was also a time back on coup where an admin made me a mod as a joke, because he expected me to go on a rampage, banning everybody--but instead, i actually turned out to be very fair, by-the-book type of mod--i was demoted only because the admin proceeded to trick me into abusing my powers (he told me to ban someone, and i listened, and he considered that abuse)

They shouldn't have to be in that situation. I've seen that happen before in other communities. It may seem minor to have to punish a moderator, or even demote them, but it can lead to serious drama. It's better if everyone unanimously has no doubts over the individual in the first place.
