If any of you smoke, how did you get into it?

I have zero intention of ever trying it, the mere thought of lighting one up in mouth frightens me. But I would be lying if I said I wasn't intrigued by such a destructive behavior. When I was in grade school, the typical arguments I got from teachers and other authority figures was that everyone gets into it through peer pressure. I sincerely doubt that everyone was peer pressured into it, but I genuinely don't know any other way a person could get hooked on something like cigarettes.

I could just be overthinking it, but I really don't see how anyone could come up with the logical conclusion to intake a bunch of pathogens into their lungs to "reduce stress" when they could just go home and masturbate.

Every time I'm even around second hand smoke or smoke a cigarette, I can feel it the next day and sometimes have a cough. No clue what drives people to do it.

I knew what he meant, but I was saying I never did get a breather, I just bottled up my stress until I got home, I only took breaks during my designated break times.

My dad has smoked for 25+ years so cigarettes have been a thing my entire life. I have never had the intention of doing them myself and always refuse to give my dad money to buy them.

I've tried em a few times when I was drunk, just to see what the big deal of them was really. Tasted like burnt toast, so I still have no clue why people get into them sober and willingly. Occasionally I bum a cig with someone when I'm pissed for the odd rare social situation that recommends it.

My parents used to chain smoke in the house when I was a kid. They quit when I was about 15, and that's about the time I began picking up the habit myself. I was going through nicotine withdrawals, and I was an angsty "fuck the police" kind of teen. My mom picked up the habit again 3 years later after I got in a bad car wreck with my ex-boyfriend. She took my pack and started chain smoking, and hasn't quit since. I tried quitting last year. I was doing good too I would only smoke when I drank, which was about once a month, but then I gained a shit ton of weight, so I started back up again mainly due to stress at work. It is a vicious cycle. Please never start smoking.

I only ever smoked a couple of times but the feeling of the smoke entering your lungs and holding it there is a great feeling and really does calm your nerves

I don't really understand cigarettes either. Flavor usually sucks, commercial packs are so loaded with ridiculous shit, and the cheap tobaccos that people who hand roll tyoically use all smell foul when lit.

They're not required to give us any breaks, but they all do give breaks. I've never worked in a place that didn't allow breaks... well Waffle House we don't have set breaks, but if you want a break you go out back for a smoke.
