He's 18 now, and was raised by his father.

His mother had legal custody, but the father kidnapped and safely raised him.

Should this man be put in prison, or should he have a lesser sentence, since the only crime he's really guilty of was caring for his son and wanting to make sure he was well?

Yes, the kid turned out fine.

That does not excuse the fact that the father broke the law, kidnapped his son when he did not legally have custody, and prevented the mother from seeing her son?

Would the father have liked it if he was kept from seeing or speaking to his son?

It's a very hard decision for me to decide whether he should probably get a number of decades in prison, or get a mandatory sentence for this father who lost a kid to his mother.

Get of my lawn
The most common kind of kidnapping is this, one parent taking a kid away from the other. Sure, it's not usually this long. What goes for the geese goes for the gander. He should be charged. But, if a mother does this, she too should be charged. Kidnapping is kidnapping.

Why should he get a lighter sentence?

It was kidnap and hiding him from the law

Yeah but she wouldn't cause double standards and lies.

Any stance on the issue but this is wrong.
