If your main way of arguing is screaming and insulting people for having different opinions than you, all the while claiming your opinions as fact, than really all I can say is toss this massive pride of yours away and grow up.

Just about everywhere you go, "if you're not scared of driving then you're mentally ill". Then going on to say to anyone who disagreed, all of which actually have been driving for much longer, to be wrong and they're just insane, because clearly the ones comfortable with their own selfs are the ones who are insane.

And it shouldn't be what you base your entire driving time on, theres a difference between being wary of the idiots, and being confident in your own driving when your skills are up to par, as opposed to thinking I will die if I step into any vehicle, let alone get on a road.

"being wary" is the same as being afraid, by the way

wariness is a light form of fear

Oh, hey.
You've lost the plot on this one, just because your afraid doesn't mean everyone is scared.
I never said that.

I said if you AREN'T scared, you shouldn't be ALLOWED to drive. Because you're mentally ill.

Quote
I'm not scared at all when I'm driving. Probably everyone on this forum who drives can say the same thing lol.
Then you--all of you--are insane.

I was only ever afraid he first time I drove.

After that I haven't been scared at all. I have no reason to be. Unless, for example, I hydroplane during a turn and almost hit something or someone, which I will be afraid after the fact but not for long.

I just don't see a point in being constantly afraid. There are some shit drivers in Miami, but I've only ever been in one accident, in a suburb, because she hit me from behind (her fault) and it wasn't bad.

Can you be afraid of shit like that? Sure.

But there's no point in being afraid of your own abilities if you know the basics and don't drive like an idiot.

Like I said. Drive on the defensive. It's not being "afraid" it's just being safe.

Verb, here's something that you can practice later when you get a little more used to driving. Most teachers and parents alike will usually tell you to put two hands on the steering wheel. 10 and 2 o'clock if I remember right. But that's all they tend to say. It's fine when you're a new driver and you're learning.

But as you go along, you should try learning how to drive with one hand. Rather than have your hands locked at 10 and 2, you steer with your palm open. It's a lot more fluid than crossing your arms as you turn.

The second added benefit is for when things become serious. If you already have two hands on the steering when something bad goes down, you're already locked into a stiff state and you have nothing to physically bolster you to give that "this is serious" kind of boost. Drive with one hand in casual mode, add the second hand to the wheel when things get real.

well, this is how they taught me to steer:

so it's not really that stiff; it's meant to be fluid, and having two hands allows you to turn more wheel in a shorter amount of time if you need to

This is not the greatest sig in the world, no. This is just a tribute.
10 and 2 was the standard created in the days of manual steering to maximize leverage.
Also, in some situations, dependent on posture, bag deployment can fracture your forearms. Widen your shit to nine and three. Or be douche like me and only run twelve so your other hand is always free to give others the finger.

Allegedly this is the safest way you can steer, that way you arms never cross and are never between your arms and the airbag

It's the only way they teach it in the UK, IIRC.

Maybe it's down to an instructor's preference, but I've been told never to cross arms because it restricts your control (e.g. ypu want to go further left/right quickly, for whatever reason), and now learning about the airbag thing is just another reason (I haven't fully learnt to drive so it's never really occurred to me).

But eh, drive how you like, so long as it's safe. Follow the instructor, then drive whatever you feel is the safest way when you pass, which is obviously by not getting in one.

Right leg on the pedals, left knee on the wheel. That's the man's way.

today's drive went better than yesterday overall, but there were two glaring issues:

- to this day, my steering still needs some work--i had a lot of good turns, but oftentimes, i find myself either oversteering or understeering, depending on how i'm feeling about the turn. it's also hard for me to balance turning the wheel and accelerating at the same time when i have to

- this was probably the biggest mistake i've made, ever: i was rolling up to an intersection, intending to make a left turn. there was a guy ahead of me who was intending to go straight, giving him the right of way. but for whatever reason, i had a mental block, and i continued to roll up to make my turn even though i didn't have the right of way. my instructor forced a brake on me, and asked me what i did wrong--"i almost cut that guy off."

other than that though, it was a good final drive... but that was a pretty big mistake. if i pull something like that again, i could get myself in an accident, so i wanna avoid that.

i take my written test tomorrow, then i'm done
