My niggaOT:Clubs, intramural sports, and religious groups are great. Look online for your college's clubs and activities and I'm sure you'll find something. If you're not athletic enough for sports or just aren't interested, try things like casual running clubs, spin classes, yoga, or martial arts. I met a lot of great people in a jiu jitsu club during my time in college. Frats aren't a bad option either, just look for technical degree frats or just general non-bro frats. If your roommate is really an issue, talk to the manager of your dorm and see about moving. They're usually pretty accommodating.

And I'm following Icy's advice (because my uni's club website sucks), I'm just gonna watch the FB page and look for posters and shit.
Find an arts major. Idc if theater or visual arts or music. Hang out with them.Bam. Instant source of friends.
How severe is your social anxiety? Elaborate on how well you meet new people (do you have a hard time continuing conversation or do you find it impossible to make eye contact ect)

My degree was in industrial engineering, which is engineering with a heavy focus on statistics. I don't really know how your program works, but getting a strong foundation is important because there are many different techniques for analysis and hypothesis testing, but they're all variations of a few different techniques you'll learn early on.
