If you don't listen to Mathcore bands you don't get to call anything simple.

There is a lot of music that is "basic" that is still stimulating.

Then we obviously disagree on what "basic" means, because to me, basic music cannot be stimulating by definition.

In fact, pretty much MOST music is like that. I don't think you listen to any bands aside from Tool with complex (using that term loosely) song structure, and Tool isn't as complicated as fedora nerds like to pretend.

Anything more "complex" than AC/DC's verse/chorus/verse, 4/4 at all times, simple riffs, and repetitive choruses is good enough for me. Because that shit is baby's first rock band material. I can handle simplicity if the lyrics are interesting or fun to sing along to, but AC/DC doesn't even have that.

Keep in mind that the word "basic" goes beyond 4/4 time and verse/chorus/verse.

Take the song "Reptile." It has an extended instrumental intro that creeps along for almost a whole minute for the purpose of creating a perturbing, uneasy atmosphere. It consists of these odd and slightly unsettling ambient noises, like metallic clangs, like a piece of metal being dragged on concrete by someone too weak to carry it. Obviously, this isn't the most conventional way to begin a song, but it works very well in the song's favor.

After about a minute of that, the main beat crashes in. It should be self-explanatory why this beat is much more than "basic"--listen to the instrumentation. This is some industrial at its best. Is it the most complex beat in the world? No, but there's at least eight layers of tracks, which is one of Trent's trademarks--he likes to start out with a lot of layers--it's not just guitar, rhythm, bass, and percussion. There's a whole lot of synthesized layers as well, so you can listen to the song and almost get a new experience out of it every time.

The lyrics are some of the best Trent has ever written, but you don't care about that because you're dumb
