I'm a big Alien fan, and I don't get the hate behind AVP. Sure it fucks up some perceived continuity, but damn it's a fun movie and isn't nearly as problematic as Resurrection.

AVP2 is hot garbage though, but because it's a technically bad film, not because of the concept.

I find the whole antartic aztec temple thing rather dumb. I would've prefered it to be located in the Yutacan peninsula or the Amazon.

It helps the movie maintain the theme of isolation, though. I would be much less concerned about an expedition to a jungle or island with help close by, than an expedition to bumfuck-nowhere-Antarctica. Yeah it's pretty silly and inexplicable, but I think the setting does more good than harm.

it really doesnt, we are constantly told that the Predators prefer warm climates through two movies. it doesnt make sense. and a jungle expedition would've been amazing considering its the Predator's bread and butter and the fact that seeing Aliens jump from tree to tree attacking MARINES would've also been pretty rad

I got it. FYI they just did a new one for the new SW trailer.

Maybe the "fun" excuse doesn't hold water, but the complaint that every Alien film has to be artsy and deep is a bit conceited.

Maybe, but they'd still have to nuke the area and that leads to all sorts of other issues, unless it's an isolated island somewhere. Xenomorphs can breed in ostensibly any mammal or large animal, so they probably wouldn't care about the humans and would just grab every nearby animal they could get. The aliens are really only an effective monster in dark, enclosed areas.

I appreciate it for its attempt, but it's disappointing. It doesn't do anything more effectively than the others, and it failed to set itself apart as an iteration in a new genre (because it's a sloppy action/horror amalgamation). The dog alien was pretty neat, and I wish other sequels had expounded on other xenomorph forms.

Wait, is AvP considered canon? I don't mind the film but I really don't care for Predators and I'd rather not have them canon in the Alien universe.

I've had it explained to me that Alien and Predator are both canon to AvP, but AvP is not canon to the non-AvP franchises.

So AvP doesn't take place in the same universe as say Prometheus?

I honestly don't know. I don't think so because that would contradict a lot.

I tend to just look at Alien and Predator as two cool things and generally disregard AvP as a serious canon entity.

They've been canon  since the alien skull was in Predator 2

To be fair, there are ways to justify and explain it. Kinda. Based on my admittedly limited knowledge of the series, I remember the Predators came there for a trial and challenge. It would make sense for them to do this in a climate they do poorly in to test and hone their skills further. Or because the temple is so deep under the ice, you could argue that it was built back when Antarctica wasn't all that cold yet (even though that isn't entirely scientifically accurate because you'd need to go back further than human origins to have it be tropical temperatures, and it wouldn't just be covered in ice like that). It's a bit silly, but I'm with Turkey. It's excusable in a movie about Aliens fighting Predators.
Eh, yeah. I had a lot of problems with the movies myself but I guess that Antarctic temple thing is the least of the movie's issues.

Much of the Alien/Predator Extended Universe is rather retarded. Only things that should be canon are Alien, Aliens, Alien Isolation, and possibly Aliens 3 and Prometheus

emigrate or degenerate. the choice is yours
I used to love it when I was younger but I don't think it's aged too well, especially in the CGI department. Some scenes are subatomic cringe tier but the action still remains largely entertaining.

Fun fact, the Scottish engineer guy (Ewen Bremner) was taught by my old drama teacher when he was in high school.

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
My Dad always thought it was funny how two hands expanding could mean "a bomb" in sign language between a Predator and a Human.

Like fucking hell the Predator isn't Lassie, there isn't an Alien stuck down a well or anything.

I am huge Alien fan too but I've never seen it because I've imagined it would ruin Alien for me but hmm I'm interested now given all the positive responses ITT

It kind of fits the situation though, you're interacting with a trained monster with all sorts of different technology fighting a battle to the death with the perfect hunter, what else could it have meant?

Literally anything.

The Alien could grow for all she (and the audience) knows, hence why she had the cue for her to say "A bomb?" after the Pred. did it.

It was poorly done, and easily could've done without it.

It was actually the first of both Alien and Predator movies I ever saw or heard of so for the longest time I believed it was the original and that Alien etc were spin offs
