Please respect the srs tag this is a rare moment where I'm not playing a persona

None of you know this but I skipped a grade (1st lol) so I've always been around people older than me. A lot of my friends from high school who are around 20 are coming back to my small town for Thanksgiving break. And talking to them makes me want to move out SO bad. To a far away city.

However I'm really scared to go through with it. I'm scared of being alone in a new place. Terrified actually. I'm very good at making friends but my small town has a comfortable feel to it. I see people I know everywhere I go. Grocery store, gym, restaurants. I'm never really alone. And making friends in a new city wouldn't have the same feel as I do with my old friends, some of which I've known for 8-10 years.

But there's NOTHING to do in my town. It's draining with not many opportunities. And I feel like moving to a big city would be such a huge movement for growth. My life has been stagnant recently and I think that reflects on how much of my energy I put in the gym or my relationship. I'm trying to fill a void.

So yeah, people who have moved out, tell me about your experiences. Also I think I've made a thread similar to this before but now I have the means to do something about it.

Well, I moved out to go to a university, then moved back six months later when I flunked out, so...

It really all comes down to what you enjoy as a person. Through the span of my life, I've lived in at least one city in most of the mainland provinces of my country minus the east coast and the three northern territories. It was finding small town life, and eventually distant rural life that made me realize how much I enjoy isolation. I said it once before. Cities are a lot like snow globes. Fun to peer into. Stop by and visit for a time. But never to get trapped in.

If you're into the respective things that cities do offer, and are willing to undertake what you have to sacrifice to live in one, then by all means, try it. The one thing I can reccomend, is having an exit strategy. If the city life proves to be too much for you, you can always return home.

Forgot the part that ushan mentioned too. Every city has it's own flavor and no two are alike. You'll be able to enjoy certain ones for longer than you could others.

Get of my lawn
I moved from San Diego to Atlanta and then DC.

By myself

Do it.

You have a rare chance to rebuild yourself in your own image. Whatever you want to be, you will be.

Is it frightening? Hell yes.

But you can be whoever you want to be.

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
Moved from middle of nowhere, Ireland, to nearly the middle of nowhere, Wales when I was 10.

There's a lot more things to do which is nice, but it sucks doing it on your own initially as you'll know no-one.

Then I move to Cardiff for 9 months of the year to do my degree, and I find it fun. The uni makes it easy to find friends in various places, and the city itself ain't too crowded.

It's good in the long term, but not great in the short term while you adjust.

I never really made any new friends when I moved out. Restructuring your social life is hard. I don't spend much time in meatspace anyway, so it's not so bad, but be ready for some shit if you feel being social is important.

Long live NoNolesNeckin.

Ya fuckin' ganderneck.
Moved to The Bronx. Was pretty fun but I was with one of my friends and his cousins so I wasn't alone living there.

Only stayed for three months, though.
