Ignoring someone insulting you is childish? I didn't pay you much mind when you were flipping shit in serious a few weeks ago when you just started attacking for whatever reason.
highly, especially when not all their doing is insulting you, and i never even insulted class
i think i called him a fucking idiot once because he thought he didn't know the difference between a ban and a warning

but no, claiming that someone is a solipsist based on careful observation is not an insult
You're right. It's a character assassination. You don't just start to internally believe a philosophy like solipsism, it's a clear choice. You claiming I believe anything close to that is saying that I'm some serial liar. It's no different than calling you a nihilist - just completely unfounded and ridiculous.

Though I don't think ignoring someone who's throwing insults at you is childish at all. I'm talking in general, not you to Class.
shows you're incapable of taking a little heat over the internet, and that you don't like having your views challenged

maybe childish is the wrong word--it's uppity and cunty, but i associate it with childishness because it's kind of like giving up, except you get to pretend to have the moral high ground, because you would never "sink so low" to INSULT someone for their personal beliefs

well good for you--you lack conviction, congratulations

that's what i say to that

Why is feeding the fire of non constructive argument considered childish?

If someone doesnt want to fling the proverbial shit back at another they shouldnt be judged on that choice. Plus sometimes the winning move is not to play anyway.

Like not responding to constructive argument is pretty childish if you refuse to accept or listen to a point, but if it turns to petty insults then thats not having ones views challenged,  that generally being called a cunt because the other dude has run out of ammunition and is desperately trying to appear relevant.

I would honestly think flipping shit at someone insulting you and then PMing you and crying about it shows it's more childish.

So if someone just came to you and randomly started throwing insults at you, and you just went "...okay?" and went on with your day, it's childish? What's the point of arguing with someone on something you know won't go anywhere and just blind flaming?

And I would say you only lack conviction if you don't stand up and defend the things you believe in, considering that's the exact definition of it. You don't have to get into some long ass argument over the littlest things to make yourself feel better.

What are the dogmatic views of yours?

you could claim that i'm a nihilist based on observation, and i'd probably get all ornery and defend myself, too

but i'm not gonna be such a baby about it to where i'm saying things like, "UGH SECONDCLASS IS MY LEAST FAVORITE MEMBER HE USED TO BE SMART I'VE NEVER BEEN SO OFFENDED ON THE INTERNET IN MY LIFE I'M LEGITIMATELY UPSET EVEN THOUGH I JUST HAD A CONVERSATION ABOUT HOW IT'S SILLY TO GET EMOTIONALLY INVESTED WITH PEOPLE ON THE INTENRET," though

i'll say, okay, fuck you, i'm not a nihilist, and here's why

and if i don't convince you, well, that's tough shit for me--you're gonna have your perspective, no matter how wrong or off-base it is, and i'm gonna have my perspective

you're right in saying that i don't know you personally, but i'm just saying--based on the numerous conversations we've had about philosophy and life in general, your beliefs align heavily with what i'd consider a solipsist to be

i'm open to the possibility that i'm wrong, and i very well could be--that's just me extrapolating data that i've gathered from you so far

yes, i'm aware that you have your fair share of backwards beliefs

see, that's not an insult either, but you'll no doubt take it as one

oversensivity is another reason i'd consider ignoring someone childish

Probably because claiming that someone has been lying about their important values for years is a far bigger deal than some petty insult. It's literally saying you distrust someone, you think they're a liar. The point about not taking the internet seriously was about petty deci shit, about how people don't like him or whatever. That doesn't touch the level of an accusation like yours, not even close. In fact, being accused of nihilism isn't nearly as bad as that. You can develop nihilistic ideas over time, even unconsciously. "Nothing matters", that's at least a defendable maxim. But solipsism, literally believing that other people are nonexistent? That's insanity, egotistical to the point of delusion. No sane person believes that, and it's not some developed thing. It's like being a satanist. You don't have solipsistic beliefs, you have the solipsistic belief, and it's more outrageous than believing in magic or goblins.

No, you just come off as a smug ass is all. It's not about being oversensitive, it's about you dismissing someones views under the notion you think yours are better. This is what I mean by dogmatic. You say you don't think you're always right, yet the moment someone proves you wrong on something, you suddenly go quiet or don't post in that thread, or make some excuse that something came up, so you'll be back later.

This is why you don't have many friends around here, if any.

oh come on now

you're always talking about how stupid it is to trust people over the internet, so what is this

Quote
You don't have solipsistic beliefs
sure you do

selfishness in general is solipsism-lyte

it's the most socially-accepable watering-down of solipsism there is--you don't full-on believe that no one exists, but selfishness, by definition, is the refusal to acknowledge the needs, wants, desires, or the presence of others (in favor of your self)

therefore, i would describe a selfish person as a solipsist? no
but at the very least, i would describe them as solipsistic

and i look at solipsistic beliefs with contempt, sure, but that doesn't mean that i'm insulting them--i'm stating a logical fact that makes sense from my conception of logic and vocabulary, and i don't see how you would take issue with that

even if you disagree with everything i said here, please try to understand that THAT is the perspective i'm coming from when i use that word--i've said it to you repeatedly already, but i realize that you're not a "full-on" solipsist, but you have acknowledged a degree of selfishness on your part in the past, which i consider mildly solipsistic

and that's not gonna change, sorry

solipsism and prioritizing the self are two totally, utterly seperate things

You can prioritize yourself and still care about others, recognize that they're fucking real, and try to help them. There's no middle ground in solipsism - you believe others exist in reality or you don't. Trying to say being selfish is some subset of solipsism is an irresponsible misuse of the word.

Instances on serious where Flee outclassed you in some long winded debates here or there. I remember someone coming to me specifically because you said you had somewhere to be, but never addressed it.

Course I don't expect you to believe me, I just remember taking a glance at it, and this was like half a year ago. And another time you spouted angry PM's apparently at another member after being proven wrong or something. Though that one I can't confirm.

maybe if your definition of "outclass" is "types longer paragraphs," sure, flee has outclassed me numerous times

the only notable debate flee and i have had in the past few months, i'd say, is that argument we had about circumcision--one you never took part in, for curious reasons

anyway, flee pretty much failed to make me budge on it--it took zen of all people to budge my outlook on it, and i acknowledged that my outlook was budged--before, i was completely apathetic towards circumcision, and now i'm against it, for the sole reason that it's an imperfect procedure that has the potential for complication or death

you always take flee's side, though, because he's eloquent and he cites his sources, so it APPEARS as though he's right all the time, but really, that's not a fantastically unbiased way of looking at it, i'm afraid

It's not a spectrum, it's literally a cult. You can't be a watered down mormon or a watered down scientologist, there are specific things you have to believe in to have any label attached. Being selfish isn't solipsistic in any way because there's no part of the act that assumes others don't exist. That's the requirement for an act to be solipsistic at all. And once you're a solipsist, any legitimate beliefs you have about morality are thrown out the window, because morality revolves around interaction of life.

everyone on this website has their pet subjects that they always like to participate in, but what's more interesting to me is the subjects that people DON'T participate in--and it's hard not to take notice when someone as opinionated as yourself (relatively speaking) doesn't participate in certain subjects

so by curious, i just mean that it makes me wonder a little bit about why you wouldn't share your thoughts

I'm quite literally just indifferent on the issue. I don't feel strongly about it, don't have an opinion on it, and am not really educated too much on the issue. I generally like to know what I'm talking about before I jump in, or if I'm interested, ask people about the subject so I can learn and form my own opinion.

To put it in a more relatable point with you, I supposed it'd be like me and Thunder talking about how a team manages their players and facilities for a soccer club. There is much to talk about, opinions on how to handle things, but really it's just not something you are interested in the slightest. Or maybe racing and the cars that relate to it? It's just something that doesn't grab your interest, nor do you feel the flicker to really learn about it unless something existential happened in regards to the sport/topic.

If you reply to this though, I'll throw one back tomorrow. I gotta go.

No, you grossly misused the word in some legitimately idiotic way, and after you called me a solipsist, I came to the crazy conclusion that you were calling me a solipsist. Now you change that and say you were calling me selfish or some shit. Not my fault you incorrectly used a word. Solipsism means you think others don't exist. There are no shades to that. You can't water it down. It's something you believe or you don't, and whether or not you believe it is whether or not the word applies to you.

Your mistake.
