Technology & Combat Characteristics
The Gundam Barbatos is one of 72 "Gundam" frames that was produced and used in the Calamity War, roughly 300 years ago.[1][2] After it was recovered, Chryse Guard Security used it as a power reactor.[2] Aside from the fact that its Ahab Reactors were still functional, this was done mainly because Barbatos' cockpit was missing when it was found.[3] A new cockpit similar to the one used by the CGS mobile workers was installed prior to its redeployment by the 3rd Group.[4] Poor maintenance over the centuries since the Calamity War has degraded the Barbatos' armor and full combat potential[2]. This is later rectified by Teiwaz technicians, who not only restored the Barbatos to its original look but also returned it back to a performance close to its original. [5]
Gundam units like the Barbatos are able to achieve a high energy output because they possess two Ahab Reactors.[6][1] However because it is difficult to run them in parallel operation,[6][1] only a total of 72 Gundam frames were ever produced.[6][1] The burden experienced by the pilot is high as a result of the high output and maneuverability; however it's mitigated by the implementation of Inertial Control due to the use of Ahab Particles generated from the reactor when a phase transition occurs inside its vacuum device.[1] The cockpit structure is positioned in front of the reactor to take advantage of this.[1] Among the same frame machines, Barbatos has been adjusted for an emphasis on versatility, it has the potential to adapt to every circumstances by exchanging its equipment.[1] It can also use weapons and armor from defeated enemies to improve its fighting capabilities.
Armaments
Mace
Maruba Arkay (CGS president) had considered using the Barbatos in battle and so had kept some equipment for it.[7] The Mace is one of them, it is a large physical weapon made from a high hardness, rare alloy that is also used in mobile suit frames.[7][1] As mobile suits use Nanolaminate Armor for protection, such striking weapons are considered to be effective.[1] The centre of the Mace features a pile driver mechanism that fires a 'Needle' (a large spike rod) from the tip when activated, and this is often used for piercing the enemy MS.[7] The Mace's handle is telescopic, and it can be stored on the backpack arm when not in use.[8] Used by the 1st Form up to the 5th Form, it was lost during the atmospheric entry battle with Gundam Kimaris and was left floating in earth's orbit.
Long Sword
A mobile suit-use sword shaped like a katana, it was created in the factory within Teiwaz's base, Saisei.[1] It is easy to handle due to its light weight, and shows its superiority during localized attacks.[1] The sword's grip is later improved to fit Barbatos' hands better and to help minimize kinetic energy loss when using the weapon.[5] Due to the high strength of the Nanolaminate Armor, the sword's slashes are ineffective, thus, Mikazuki is forced to aim for gaps within the enemy mobile suit's armor with the help of the Alaya-Vijnana System.[9] The long sword primarily functions as a backup melee weapon when the mace or the large special mace is available as Mikazuki finds it hard to use. However, in the battle with Graze Ein, Mikazuki finally mastered the weapon and it is shown to be able to slice through both mobile suit armor and frame in a single attack. The long sword can be stored on the backpack arm when not in use. Used by the 4th Form onwards.
Gauntlet
Already equipped when Barbatos was discovered on Mars.[1] It is thought to be one of Barbatos' original equipment but it is not a complete certainty.[1] Used only by the 1st Form and 2nd Form, the Gauntlet was lost when it was ejected alongside the rest of the left forearm armor during the battle with Gjallarhorn forces near the Mars' low orbital station.
Smoothbore Gun
A 300mm caliber gun produced for use mainly in zero gravity environment and space, emphasis was placed on power rather than accuracy.[10][5] The high-speed maneuvers of enemy mobile suit in space further made it difficult for the smoothbore gun to hit them with high accuracy, but this was overcome thanks to the Alaya-Vijnana System.[9] The high-speed bullet fired from the Smoothbore Gun have occasionally shot off the armor pieces of enemy mobile suits or even penetrate their Nanolaminate Armor. The weapon also has a 60mm machine-gun at the bottom.[5] It can be folded up and mounted to the suit's backpack arm when not in use. [10] The unfolded gun can be used while still mounted thanks to the design of the backpack arms. Its magazine holds 12 rounds.[11] Used by the 2nd Form to the 5th Form.
GR-Es02 Wire Claw
Used only by the 3rd Form, it is a shooting claw weapon mounted on the left forearm that is used for restraining enemy mobile suits as well as for clinging to enemy vessels.[12] It was taken from Gaelio's Schwalbe Graze and replaces the lost Gauntlet.
GR-H01 9.8m Battle Axe
A close combat weapon used by Graze that the Barbatos obtained temporarily during the battle with Gjallarhorn forces near the Mars' low orbital station.
Long Range Rifle
A weapon borrowed from the Gundam Gusion Rebake. A modified, long range version of Graze's 120mm rifle, it is created by Teiwaz engineers that are with the Turbines. Thanks to the longer barrel and the added scope, its long-range accuracy has been greatly improved.
Arm Mortar
A weapon originally designed for the Kutan Type-III, it can also be used by mobile suits.[13] Two mortars can be stored on each of the Barbatos' forearms. When in use, the mortar will flip forward for firing. Once the first mortar is launched, the second mortar slides up. The mortar launcher then flips back and the second mortar is loaded.[8] Although seen in use only by the 5th Form, the arm mortars can also be used by the 5th Form Ground Type or the 6th Form if required.
170mm Autocannon
Depending on the situation, the four arm mortars can be replaced by a pair of autocannons that uses helical magazines.[13][8] The autocannons' barrels extend when in use.[8] Due to their limited ammunition, they are unsuitable for long range shooting battle, but are highly effective when used in close combat.[7] Used by the 5th Form Ground Type onwards.
Large Special Mace
A replacement for the original mace after it was lost during the atmospheric entry battle, it has the nickname 'Wrench Mace'.[13] Besides functioning as an excellent striking weapon, the front portion of the wrench mace can open up and clamp onto an enemy unit tightly.[13] A special chainsaw hidden in the bulbous front portion of the mace can then slice apart the enemy unit.[13] Used by the 5th Form Ground Type onwards, and can be stored on the backpack arm when not in use. The mace was destroyed in combat by the Graze Ein during the battle in Edmonton.
Forms
1st Form
Barbatos was in this form when Maruba Arkay (CGS president) discovered it in Mars' desert 300 years after the Calamity War.[1][3] Since its Ahab Reactors were still in an operational state it was used as the CGS HQ's power source until Mikazuki boarded it.[1] At the time it did not have any shoulder armor.
2nd Form
CGS was later reformed into Tekkadan, and prior to Tekkadan's departure to Earth, the Barbatos' 1st Form is fitted with the shoulder armor from the captured EB-06 Graze.[14] These shoulder armors have the same white and blue color scheme as the main body as they are painted with the same Nanolaminate Armor.[14]
3rd Form
After the battle with Gjallarhorn near the low orbital station, the Barbatos 2nd Form is equipped with the Wire Claw captured from Gaelio's Schwalbe Graze to fix the damaged left forearm armor.[14]
4th Form
Barbatos' original form, it is reproduced by technicians at Teiwaz's base, Saisei, based on ancient materials from the time of the Calamity War that had been recorded in their database.[1] The machine's weight balance is stabilized, and the two reactors' output and operation rate are also improved after extensive maintenance and overhaul.[1][5] While Barbatos's performance is now closer to the original state, it is still not yet at 100%.[5][15]
5th Form
A new form with added waist boosters, redesigned forearm armor with mortars and chest-mounted reactive armor. Some of the new parts were provided by the Montag Company.[14] The waist boosters serve to increase the suit's mobility and were originally the hip-mounted flight units of Ein's Schwalbe Graze, Tekkadan recovered the parts when they were dislodged from the Schwalbe Graze during an earlier battle. The reactive armor serves as a countermeasure against the Kimaris' hit-and-run attacks with its Gungnir lance.[13]
5th Form Ground Type
A modified version of the 5th Form for ground combat[13], it was created with the help of Eco Turbine and again used parts provided by the Montag Company. The leg suspension was adjusted to adapt to the earth's gravity and new feet were used. As a result of this, the suit now has a higher center of gravity, leading to faster reaction and thus better mobility under gravity.[13] The added waist thrusters were removed as they were deemed useless for ground combat, and the forearm mortars can be exchanged with autocannons.
6th Form
A reinforced version of the 5th Form Ground-Type for the final battle.[14] The side skirt armor was replaced with a pair "Tail Boosters", the shoulder armor was replaced with those from the EB-06r Graze Ritter, and additional armor is added to the chest.[7][8] The tail boosters improve the suit's ground mobility, and have reduced fuel consumption.[8] [7] The added chest armor provides the cockpit with better protection from concentrated attacks and can withstand prolonged battle.[15] Although the new armor reduces the suit's mobility, they allow the Barbatos to battle for prolonged periods without any resupply.[13] When required, the shoulder armors can be ejected and used as a decoy.
Equipment
Alaya-Vijnana System
An organic device system, this old man-machine interface was developed during the Calamity War to maximize the abilities of the mobile suit. Hence, most mobile suits from that era, like the Gundams, are compatible with it. The system has two parts, one part is installed in the mobile suit, and the other part is implanted into the pilotβs spine. With this system, the pilot can connect to the mobile suit's computer and directly process mobile suit data. It also allows the pilot (even uneducated ones) to operate mobile suit for combat without reading the instruction manual, and can make difficult weapons like the Barbatos' Long Sword and the Smoothbore Gun much easier to use.[9] The implant in the pilot also enhances spatial awareness. The drop in technical capabilities after the Calamity War, coupled with the use of an incomplete version of the system in the Outer Sphere areas (such as Mars and Jupiter), lead to the implant surgery having a low success rate and can only be done at a young age to let the implant fuse as the pilot grow. As the Barbatos' original cockpit was missing, it was fitted with the Alaya-Vijnana System interface from a Mobile Worker to allow the system to function. The Barbatos' Alaya-Vijnana System can transmit higher than the usual amount of data to the pilot as its limiter was switched off for Mikazuki's use, thus only he can pilot the Gundam without any problems.
Backpack Arm
There are two backpack arms on the Barbatos' backpack, one on each side of the back thruster. The backpack arms can mount weapons, and when their hidden jointed arms are deployed, some weapons, such as the Smoothbore Gun, can be used while still mounted. [5]
JEE-M103 Kutan Type-III
A long distance transport craft/booster used for transporting containers and mobile suit. It can travel at extremely high speeds and thus traverse great distances in just a short amount of time. It was used by Mikazuki and Nadi to catch up to the Isaribi because they stayed behind at Saisei to help with the Barbatos' overhaul.[16]
Chest Reactive Armour
Additional armor mounted on the chest, it is used by Barbatos 5th form. The chest reactive armor was created by Tekkadan Mechanic, Nadi, as a countermeasure against the Kimaris' hit and run attacks with its Gungnir lance. It can endure a hit from the Gungnir and will be purged immediately after, thus repelling the attack.[13] Barbatos can then use the chance to hold onto the lance and prevent further attacks.
Operational History
The Gundam Barbatos is the 8th of the 72 Gundam Frames created by Gjallarhorn near the end of the Calamity War to counter the threat of the powerful mobile armors such as Hashmal. It was later discovered by Maruba Arkay in the Mars desert and was recovered to serve as a power reactor for Chryse Guard Security's base. The machine was taken out of the base by Mikazuki Augus during Gjallarhorn's assault. CGS, now Tekkadan, continued to improve the suit with parts and armor taken from defeated Gjallarhorn mobile suits. Teiwaz technicians later restored the Barbatos to its original appearance and close to its original performance.
Following the defeat of the Brewers, Barbatos' spare parts were used to transform the ASW-G-11 Gundam Gusion that Tekkadan had obtained from the space pirates into the ASW-G-11 Gundam Gusion Rebake. After the Montag Company offered their alliance to Tekkadan, the group gives them spare parts for Gundam Barbatos as a gift. These parts were used in Barbatos' subsequent forms, proving to be handy during the atmospheric entry battle and subsequent battles on Earth.
On Earth, the battle at Millennium Island with Carta Issue's forces resulted in Barbatos losing its shoulder armor, and they were replaced by those from a defeated Graze Ritter. It was also upgraded with new waist boosters. En route to Edmonton, Tekkadan met with Carta's forces again, but they were quickly dispatched by the Barbatos. At the outskirt of Edmonton, the Barbatos and Tekkadan's other mobile suits spent three days fighting with Corlis Stenja's forces. The enemy was eventually reinforced by Gaelio Bauduin's ASW-G-66 Gundam Kimaris Trooper and Ein Dalton's EB-AX2 Graze Ein, and the Barbatos was subsequently locked in a fight with the former. With help from McGillis Fareed and his V08-1228 Grimgerde, Mikazuki and Barbatos escaped from the Kimaris Trooper and heads to the city where it stopped the Graze Ein from killing Kudelia Aina Bernstein. During the fight with Graze Ein, Mikazuki was pushed hard and in order to win, he sought more power from the Barbatos via his Alaya Vijnana system. The system responded and improved his reaction speed, leading to Barbatos having better movements. The Barbatos' shoulder armor and backpack were later ejected as decoys, and the suit managed to slice off Graze Ein's forearms after Mikazuki mastered the Long Sword - the Barbatos' only handheld weapon left at that time. The Barbatos then won the battle after piercing Graze Ein's cockpit, killing Ein.
After the battle of Edmonton, the Gundam Barbatos participated in numerous battles for Tekkadan. However, its accumulated damage soon proved too much for Tekkadan's mechanics to repair. Thus, it was sent alongside the Gundam Gusion Rebake to the MS Workshop in Saisei to receive an overhaul, becoming the ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos Lupus.

Notes & Trivia
Barbatos is the 8th demon of the Ars Goetia. He is an earl and duke of Hell, ruling thirty legions of demons and has four kings as his companions to command his legions. He can speak to animals, can tell the future, conciliates friends and rulers, and can lead men to treasure hidden by the enchantment of magicians.
Barbatos' demon motif could be a nod to the infamous "White Devil" nickname, which is given to various Gundam-type mobile suits in other Gundam series.
Of all the Gundam Frames shown in the anime, Barbatos is the only one with the traditional two-vented mouthpiece.
In the Post Disaster timeline, Barbatos and Astaroth both possesses the two-vented mouthpiece.

Design & Development
As the ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos fought many battles with its pilot Mikazuki Augus, it became too damaged to be repaired.[1] It was then sent to the MS Workshop in Saisei, the home base of Teiwaz, for an overhaul.[1] The new name "Lupus" was given by the Saisei's Chief Mechanic, who was also responsible for the mobile suit's maintenance.[2]
Based on Mikazuki's combat data, the mobile suit was reconfigured as a close combat unit, and its reaction speed and mobility were also increased, with adjustments made through the Alaya-Vijnana System to deepen the link between the machine's movement and the pilot's own senses.[1][2][3] As a result, the Gundam Frame's response rate was adjusted to match with the speed that Mikazuki senses.[1][2] Other changes to the suit's frame include the arms' frame being lengthened to match Mikazuki's senses, while the legs' frame were modified and has ground-use suspensions to help adapt seamlessly to combat in all environment.[3][4] Lastly, frame parts in the arm and leg joints were replaced by those reproduced by Teiwaz, this helps to resolve the accumulated damages and also improved their movability.[2] The boosters on the waist were based on those previously used by Barbatos 5th form Ground Type and 6th form.[4]
The suit's close combat armaments were rebuilt to better fit Mikazuki's fighting style, and handheld firearms were kept to a minimum, instead the suit uses exchangeable firearms attached to the forearms.[4] Defense wise, as damage sustained until the suit gets close to the opponent is a major issue, it is fitted with light body armor that is designed to most effectively fend off the impacts of being shot by a greater use of curved surface.[1][2]
Armaments
Sword-Mace
A heavy, close combat weapon developed by Teiwaz's technicians for Barbatos Lupus, its shape and weight is designed to avoid hampering the MS' mobility.[1][3] Although shaped like a sword, it is a chopping weapon rather than a slicing one.[3]
200mm Gun
Mounted on forearms, the gun barrel faces backward when not in use and rotates forward when in use.[2] The recoil when fired is absorbed by the weapon's rail slide, minimizing the effect on the control of the MS.[2] Close combat weapons can be held in hand while the 200mm Gun is equipped.
Twin Mace
Smaller than the usual mace, the twin maces are easier to wield.[3] Main weapon used by Barbatos Lupus in a melee.[5]
Arm Rocket Launcher
Close to mid-range shooting weapons that fires 2.8m long rockets.[6][4] Like the 200mm gun, they are mounted on the forearms via rail slides that absorb recoil.[3] The launchers normally face backwards and will rotate forward when used. If required, they can be fired while facing backwards.[7] Close combat weapon can be held in hand while the launchers are equipped.
New Long Sword
A long sword forged by the MS workshop in Saisei for Barbatos Lupus' use.[8] Its blade is made of the same rare alloy as that used in mobile suit's frames, and in the hands of the right pilot, it can bisect a mobile suit.[8] Not used in the anime.
Large Railgun
A large handheld electromagnetic launcher, its barrel slides forward when in use.[4][9]
Valkyrja Buster Sword
Borrowed from the V08Re-0526 Helmwige Reincar, it is a large sword that exceeds the mobile suitβs height and was designed for use against mobile armors.[7]
Variable Mace
A mace with a spike-like claw that can flip out from the tip to catch the target upon impact.[10] A pair of variable maces are used in the manga by Barbatos Lupus against Galan Mossa's mobile suit team.[11]
Equipment
Sub Arm
Like the original Barbatos, Barbatos Lupus has a pair of Sub Arms on its back for mounting weapons. They also contain a hidden claw each that can be used for attacking enemy units at the rear.[3]
Alaya-Vijnana System
The cable connecting the pilot to the machine's Alaya-Vijnana system is lengthen and can be extended out of the cockpit.[2] This is to assist Mikazuki who has lost sensation in his right arm.[2]
Operational History
Gundam Barbatos Lupus was first deployed during the defense of a half-metal mine run by Kudelia Aina Bernstein's Admoss Company. It aided the other Tekkadan's Mobile Suits, the Shiden and Shiden Custom, in repealing the attack of the Dawn Horizon Corps' Garm Rodi forces. After forcing the enemy to withdraw, the Barbatos Lupus stopped working due to an impact received from its hard landing earlier.
Later it was deployed to fight off the Dawn Horizon Corps in space, destroying multiple Garm Rodis and eventually defeating the Hugo used by the group's leader Sandoval Reuters, leading to his capture by Mikazuki.
During the Arbrau-SAU war, it was deployed alongside the Gundam Gusion Rebake Full City and some Shidens to aid Tekkadan's Earth Branch and protected McGillis during the conflict. During a later battle in the same war, it rescued a shocked and inexperienced Hush Middy from a Geirail Scharfrichter.
The Barbatos Lupus was severely damaged in the battle against the Hashmal, a mobile armor from the Calamity War. It was then sent back to Saisei for an overhaul, and was upgraded into the ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex.
Before the damaged Barbatos Lupus was sent to Saisei, a group picture of Tekkadan was taken in front of it. A copy of this photo was seen years later in the house where Akatsuki and Atra live in.

Notes & Trivia
Barbatos is the 8th demon of the Ars Goetia.
The word 'Barbatos' is derived from the latin "barbatus" which means bearded. The Ars Goetia demon is often depicted with a beard, and this is reflected on the suit via the red chin piece.
"Lupus" is Latin for "wolf".
With its Alaya-Vijnana System's safety limiter removed, Barbatos Lupus' eyes glows a blood red. This may pay homage to the EXAM System, where mobile suits utilizing this system will have red eyes if the system is activated.
Barbatos Lupus' battle with Hashmal maybe a reference to the biblical confrontation between demons and angels. From another point of view, it could look like a regal knight combating a dangerous monster.
An image similar to the sigil of the demon Barbatos can be seen on the console upon activation. In addition, the Teiwaz logo can also be seen.

Design & Development
The Gundam Barbatos Lupus fought a fierce battle against the Hashmal in the vicinity of Chryse, a city on Mars and was so severely damaged that it was sent to the Saisei's MS workshop for a major upgrade.[1] Data sampling of Barbatos Lupusβ fight with Hashmal was also conducted during the overhaul.[2] To match the combat data of Mikazuki Augus, who was increasing his compatibility with the mobile suit through the Alaya-Vijnana System, the machine's response speed was increased to the limit of its theoretical value.[1] Movement of the frame's joints were also delicately tuned to match the pilot's actual sensations.[1] The suit's cockpit hatch was changed from its predecessors' top opening method to a front opening style in consideration of Mikazuki's worsened disabilities.[3]
To more intuitively reflect Mikazuki's fighting style, the suit's arms were enlarged and elongated like a beast, and various weapons are fitted on the body.[1][4][5] The arms' frame structure was also upgraded and reinforced.[1] The tail parts of the Hashmal was transplanted to the suit's back, and through the Alaya-Vijnana System, Mikazuki controls this tail blade as if it was a limb.[1] Overall, the Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex is customized for close combat, and its silhouette gives it a more ferocious look than its predecessors.[1][4] The word 'Rex' means 'King' in latin, and this is fateful as Mikazuki is going along with Orga Itsuka, whose aspiration is to be King of Mars.[1]
Armaments
Ultra Large Mace
Developed for Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex by Teiwaz's MS workshop, besides fitting Mikazuki's combat style, this heavy weapon also takes into view combat against battleships.[1][3] The telescopic handle helps to close the gap with enemy unit.[1] When not in use, it can be mounted on the rear waist horizontally.[1]
Pile Bunker
The tip of the mace and the bottom of its handle are equipped with a pile bunker each.[1]
Tail Blade
The Hashmal's tail parts were transplanted onto Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex's back, and combined with a blade made of rare metal for better close combat performance.[3][5] The resulting tail blade can retract or extend to strike opponents as directed by Mikazuki through the Alaya-Vijnana System, and is useful for one against many or other unfavorable combat situations.[2][5]
Rex Nail
Due to the rex nails mounted on the fingers, the arms of the Barbatos Lupus Rex can function as powerful weapons that can pierce opponent machines.[1] Like the Tail Blade, the rex nails and the suit's toes are made of rare metal.[6][2]
200mm Gun
Each forearm contains a built-in 200mm gun.[1] This weapon is a further development of the Barbatos Lupusβ firearms.[2]
Heel Bunker
Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex is equipped with pile bunkers on both heels.[5]
GR-H01 9.8m Battle Axe
A close combat weapon used by Graze that the Barbatos Lupus Rex obtained temporarily during its last battle.[7]
Anti-Ship Lance Mace
A lance-shaped mace designed for anti-ship combat, it has a telescopic handle.[8]
Equipment
Sub-Arms
A sub-arm is stored within each forearm.[1] When deployed, the black part on the back of the forearm will flip open, and the sub-arm will unfold into its full length.[1]
Operational History
The Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex was first seen in combat during Tekkadan's attack on JPT Trust, a Teiwaz subsidiary headed by Jasley Donomikols. It easily dispatched the latter group's mobile suits, and ended the battle by killing Jasley through destroying the bridge of his ship with the Ultra Large Mace.
It was later sent to Earth to assist in McGillis Fareed's coup of Gjallarhorn, and played a role in disabling the mobile suits at the organization's headquarter. It then engaged the ASW-G-XX Gundam Vidar in the headquarter's basement. Initially, Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex had the edge over its enemy, but they fought on more equal terms when the Gundam Vidar's Alaya-Vijnana Type E was activated. The fight stopped after ASW-G-01 Gundam Bael's intervention, and Gundam Vidar retreated back to space.
During the battle between the Arianrhod fleet and McGillis's Coup d'etat group, which Tekkadan had allied with, the Barbatos Lupus Rex was kept occupied by the unrelenting EB-08jjc Reginlaze Julia as per Rustal Elion's plan. This neutralized the effects the Gundam could've had on the battle. Later, when Tekkadan came up with a daring plan to charge into the Arianrhod fleet, the Barbatos Lupus Rex was deployed as the vanguard. It then clashed with the Reginlaze Julia again and severed the latter's left arm. However, it failed to stop the Reginlaze Julia from interfering with the ASW-G-64 Gundam Flauros (Ryusei-Go)'s Dainsleif shot at the enemy flagship, and as a result, the attack missed its mark.
When Tekkadan's Mars HQ was surrounded by the Arianrhod fleet, the Barbatos Lupus Rex was deployed alongside the group's remaining mobile suits to buy time for the non-combatants to escape via the secret tunnel underneath the base. The suit was heavily damaged when the Arianrhod fleet launched an orbital bombardment using the Dainsleifs. Despite this, it continues fighting until its pilot, Mikazuki, passed away from his fatal injuries.

Notes & Trivia
The Barbatos Lupus Rex's appearance, with its claws and extendable tail blade, bears a resemblance to a demon, which is fitting as it is named after the demon 'Barbatos'.
Lupus means "wolf" while Rex means "king" in Latin. "Barbatos Lupus Rex" literally means "Barbatos-Wolf-King".
The unused concept design for the final battle, which features the left shoulder armor from a Reginlaze and Barbatos 1st Form's left arm, can be replicated in Gunpla form using parts from the HGIBA MS Option Set 9.
Barbatos Lupus Rex is the only Post Disaster Gundam with a double V-fin.
