I let people know my location, and I don't care.

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
I detect a hint of sarcasm there.
yes, people can abuse the info

i just don't see any reason to care so much

the chances of anything truly horrible happening are so minute it's barely worth discussing

Could you go and tell your parents that you've given out your address to people you don't know particularly well on the internet?

The wrath of parents isn't truly horrible, I'll admit, but it still sucks.

I admire the forward thinking, though I still think overall it's a stupid idea.

Is there anywhere on the internet where you wouldn't be willing to put your address? Dark/Deep web, stuff like that.

But now, I've suddenly realized just how wrong that is. How bad that is. How really threatening it could be to my livelihood, as well--I just know there might be one or two extremely vindictive people out there who are willing to ruin my life with the things I've said here, and the things I've posted here. There's a slim chance of that happening, but just knowing the reaction I get whenever I make a thread--people calling me autistic, ugly--it doesn't matter what I say. I've pissed off this community so much, and I've become SUCH a pariah, that I could find the cure for cancer and there would STILL be a few of you who would try to drag my name through the mud some more

didn't you say this yourself?

it's less a matter of place and more a matter of circumstance

here's the thing
posting an address by itself isn't anything--you'd have to be one dedicated stupid-ass lifeless motherfucker to travel to my location just because i posted it on the internet

if i posted something like "i have one trillion dollars up for grabs in my house" (which i don't), and then posted my address, okay, yeah, that's pretty dumb

if you are someone with people searching for you
then don't post your address, duh

but, if you're open to the idea of meeting people over the internet and sharing what city brought you up as a kid, and discussing your place's culture and stuff like that, i don't see anything wrong with that

you took that completely out of context

and just so you know, that makes me very angry

i wasn't referring to the revealing of personal information
i was referring to the fact that being as big of a cunt as i was online could hurt my chances of getting employed, which is true

it had nothing to do with revealing my address

People are usually attacked because they "happen" to be located near the person who posted their address.
You say I'm crazy if I drive across the entire country to find you.

But..........if you are only a 15 minute drive into town, that's not hard to do.

I thought it was similar enough, anything linking this account and your personal life could be used against you by anyone insane enough to take what you say to heart.

posting your address doesn't seem like it would discourage the aforementioned response

I'm fine with that, but your exact address is still stupid. You don't need to give it to meet with someone for the first time, you give a recognizable landmark, town hall or whatever.

You don't even need a lifeless fuck to "come get you" or whatever, it can be more sophisticated than that, and it's naive to think "it" can only happen that way. People can surprise you.

First of all because there are absolutely no upsides, so why put it down in the first place. And second, even though the chances are low, there are trolls and kiddos that will, give you pizzas, figure out other personal information from a given address, and probably the worst, call a SWAT team to your door. So there's just no reason to take the risk, no matter how small.

You don't have to live in paranoia. But just be aware of your actions and the fact some days it's the small shit that comes around to get you when you least expect it.
of course

a lot of people are getting super emotional over the fact that i apparently claimed that people who don't reveal their personal information are pussies--i might have said something similar to that, but i don't think i ever said it outright, only implied

you're not a pussy if you don't reveal stuff to people--you're just protective, and i would argue OVERprotective--even paranoid
and i think you have priorities to sort out

but you're no weaker than me, and i'm not stronger than you
i just CARE LESS than you

i'm aware of the "risk" i incur upon myself
but i find that revealing personal information has a lot more benefits than people really take into consideration

like, for example, secondclass didn't know that i lived in the same state as him
he doesn't like me
and i don't him
but if we did, we might be like, "hey, that's kinda neat, maybe we can meet up somewhere"

oh, but meeting people you've met over the internet? DANGER DANGER
AXE MURDERERS, RAPISTS

Fair enough. Your choice after all. Everybody's got that fun to choose. Just don't take all the folks in here seriously. You start throwing the word pussy around which you did and suddenly the serious hats go on.

You can refute folks in here to your heart's content but that lovely singular word turned this whole thread into a macho man randy savage match.

Kinda funny actually.
