I know a geology professor who studied rocks long before she chose to major in teaching geology. She gets paid to do what she'd do on her own time. That's what work should be; if you aren't going to enjoy your career then don't choose that career.

That's the mindset you have when you need a job. I'm talking about a career. That's what you dedicate your life toward. I'm not fond of maintenance, but then, I'm not going to spend my life doing it.

And yet it can be if you choose a career you enjoy. Architects choose to be architects because they enjoy it. Same with doctors, teachers, reporters. If all you get out of your occupation is money then you won't have that occupation very long.
