Why do you say "instead", like you are only able to celebrate one or the other? Celebrate Christmas by being around your family, celebrate New Years by getting drunk.
Well I don't celebrate the religious side of it.

I celebrate both, but not as a religious holiday.

It's mostly just an excuse to decorate, have family over and give each other presents to lighten up an otherwise usually gloomy season (i.e. winter)

Christmas just becomes a bit pointless once you get older. It kind of is a commercial holiday.

I've hardly gotten anything for the past two years anyway. Last Christmas was my first time without my family, but I still had my friends...and the family of my now ex. I won't be able to spend the holidays with any of the people I care about this year because they threw me out.
