too hard to think of one time, but here's a memory that i'll probably cherish forever

during my senior year of high school, i took part in a student parliamentary program called youth in government, where students can create a bill for their state, go to the capitol building (mine being in Lansing, of course), and actually debate it on the floor via parliamentary process

super fun stuff, but also very formal and not for everybody especially if you aren't into organized debates

if your bill actually makes it through, it actually has a chance to be passed as actual legislature for your state

some people tried to get marijuana legalized (it falls through every time), some people try to ban wolfhunting

my bill was to introduce an instant-runoff voting system in the state of michigan--it went beyond the preliminary processes, but it ultimately fell through in favor of other stuff

ANYWAYS, after we finished, my delegation decided to hold a "spoof" parliamentary process, where a couple of older delegates would have us debate silly bills, like the annexation of canada--and we'd try our best to formulate our arguments with a completely straight-face, despite them being... ridiculous
