Nuka, the point isn't simply selling a product, it's about making a custom made product for an event one finds to be morally objectionable and besides, such a scenario as the one you proposed isn't realistic with the current laws as there are no religions in which the core values detest red. Hell, even in the states that have religious freedom laws still force businesses to cater to gay weddings.

Would such a scenario as the one you proposed be stupid? Yes. Is somebody holding a gun to your head and forcing you to do business there? The answer is no, they aren't. Therefore it should be a nonissue. If it's bad for business, why should anybody care but the business owners?

If an argument can be made that segregation is a core belief of any major religion, then I guess legally it should be allowed. Morally, nope, it would be awful.  Anyway if such a thing happened in this day and age, people would throw a field day and the business would go under really fast, therefore turning it into a non-issue again. These sorts of things have a way of sorting themselves out. Even if the law protects them, their reputation would not. But realistically, such a scenario would not happen with the current laws in place.

Also I hope it goes without saying that my folks would never discriminate against anybody.

Not all forms of discrimination are wrong. I descriminate against Satanists, I don't want to be involved with them, I also don't want to be involved with scientologists, or meth-heads, etc. Anyway, it doesn't matter in regards to my mother's business because they don't cater to any weddings. Too much tolerance is not a good thing. But this whole thing is being blown out of proportion. They aren't refusing service or store entry, they aren't persecuting gays, people simply refuse to cater to certain types of weddings. As I said before, don't like it, don't shop there.

As I said, they shouldn't refuse service, but notify the couple that their proceeds will be donated towards pro-traditional marriage lobbying. Earlier you claimed retardation on my part and yet you can't seem to grasp the point of my topic. The irony is kind of bitter.

Well Nuka, the point is to get them to stop those kinds of attacks. Discouraging from doing business for the purpose is the point.

Not all forms of discrimination are wrong.
That's true, but refusing service to someone besed on their sexual preference is discrimination and objectively wrong.

Why hello there! I'm DiamondSentinel, and I'm a rare breed here on the internet! Yes, I'm a Christian, and a devout one at that! If you want to talk about that sort of stuff, I'm always up for it! Just keep it civil. ^_^
I don't have the slightest opinion on laws for it. In fact, I can't even decide what I'd do in this situation.

While Christians should love people equally, since we are all sinners, there comes a certain extant to where we shouldn't tolerate those who dwell in unrepentant sin.

In layman's terms, I have an internal conflict over how far my tolerance of this should go.

Let's do a thought experiment. Suppose new studies came out skating that children can consent. I know it sounds preposterous and I will most certainly be accused of using the slippery slope. (Which contrary to popular belief, is not always a logical fallacy) but let's say that it actually happened and there was a push to lower the age of consent and allow minors or even children to get married adults. First of all, how would you all react if this happened? I'm not asking if you think it will happen, I want to know what you would think if it did.

I wasn't responding to your reply lemon, but I actually agree with you, it is morally wrong IMO. My reply was just a general thought experiment.

"flaming nipple chops"-Your host, the man they call Ghost.

To say, 'nothing is true', is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say, 'everything is permitted', is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic.
Here's what I don't get. Do people just go to the Bakery and say "I want a wedding cake for me and my gay fiance to have at our gay wedding"? Why not say "I want a wedding cake", or if there's a problem and the owners don't feel comfortable go to another bakery? I mean, if I was a homosexual and I wanted a cake for my wedding and there was a problem at the first bakery we went to, we'd go to another one, not postpone our wedding a year to sue that bakery for denying us a cake.

Ultimately, all the bakery is doing is hurting itself by refusing to offer their product to a willing consumer, and potentially losing profits if word gets out and some people that would've gone there disagree with that business practice and then decide not to.

People trying to compare this to the Civil Rights era when you could deny service to people of color if you just felt like it are off. First, you can't tell if a person is gay by just looking at them unless you've developed some kind of gaydar. Second, the country is pretty progressive and with how Capitalism makes our culture competitive, I'd gladly bet that you'll find somebody willing to make you a wedding cake no matter what you are. There's also the obvious part of how this only has to do with gay weddings.
