Umm no sorry I've known plenty to work (some even two jobs) and go to school at the same time. This argument just doesn't hold because we just aren't invested enough in understanding you to the point where we can gather whether or not you might want to find a job while going to school. It's really not that obvious.

I really shouldn't know because I don't pay that much attention to you, and I would assume that there's a fair few others that don't as well. We aren't psychic, we actually have to care about something and be mindful of it to make an accurate deduction. Otherwise, if you state something people on here are going to take it at face value.

ok, go grab like 50 applications, and go door to door and cold call the fuck out of these businesses. that is how you get results in the world we live in. don't just look at job boards, there's a lot more jobs in this world than what the postings say. and be sociable about it. go in there and say something like "hey, I was wondering if you guys may be hiring?" and if they say no, don't leave, ask if you can leave your resume for when they do get an opening.

I'd say that applies only to foreigners from third world countries. People from other developed countries have no delusions about what living in the US would actually be like and how dead the "American dream" is. I was just surprised to see how hard it is to even get an entry level job there. I figured it would be about equal, but from the sound of it things are pretty fucked up. Tertiary education is relatively cheap so that many high school graduates will get some sort of a degree, and aside from that there's plenty of jobs available in labor or retail.
From my experience here, retail is all the same middle aged people that have been working wherever since I moved here last year. Heck I live 15 minutes away from a big outlets/mall thing in one direction who rarely have anything open, to a mall 10 minutes the other way that still have no open positions.
