Now that I graduated and started working, I find myself telling my parents that's I'm too busy to talk or be around
I don't really want to fall into the trap of being the kid that never talks to them and then dumps them in a nursing home

One of my coworkers calls her mom before we clock in, during lunch, and sometimes after we clock out, every day. Although she’s Hispanic and her mom lives in Puerto Rico; from what she tells me, their culture is very family oriented.

MEANWHILE, my mom and sister live about half an hour away and I straight up never see them. My mom says she knows I’m okay because I’m not calling her. I remember calling her a few weeks back to see if she wanted to go out for dinner and her first response after I said hello was “what’s wrong?” of all things.

It really just depends on a lot of things as you get older. There’s just nothing really for us to talk about. She knows I’m a bit of a workaholic and all I do in what little free time I give myself is just recoup, chores, or video games with friends online. I still love my mom and the idea of her death fills me complete dread, since she’s getting pretty old as she had me pretty late in life. At the same time too, she’s a stereotypical boomer and it’s hard to take her anywhere without her embarrassing herself and the rest of us.

If you’re really worried, the best thing you can do is still try to communicate with them even if you can’t visit. They’ll definitely appreciate it.

Currently staying with them as well so more often than I’d like tbh.

I’m leaving on 9/10 and taking my bed, so it will probably be somewhat rare, since I won’t have anywhere to sleep when I come home.

See my mom at least once a fortnight, haven't seen my father since early March? It wasn't by choice or for socialising reasons because I hate him.

Only to the level I can tolerate them. Dad's in another province, so that's once every few years sort of deal. Mum's in one of the towns out here. Once a week for her usually.

Hmm...
Every couple weeks I go to their house and I'd say I talk to them on the phone once or twice a week. Not a whole lot but I do still make the effort.

I haven't seen my dad in 11 years.  I haven't physically seen my mother the past year since moving across the country, but we've video called a few times and talk almost every day for at least a few minutes.  Sure she can be a pain in my ass, but I'd rather have that than the days when the phone calls stop

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
I talk to my parents every so often, probably 2-3 months over the phone or facebook. Last time I saw them in person was 3 days over Christmas (which I entirely blame on the university allowing coursework over the christmas period, and covid lockdowns)

I'm not sure I've quite got the hang of it since I moved out 2 years ago, but I seem to be doing better than my brother. He hasn't talked to her in the last 4 years, and recently he started working offshore so he doesn't really get time to visit or call.

It kinda works out though, in a weird sort of way. I talk/send memes to my brother weekly, he's visited me a few times in last few months, and then I update mum with how he's doing, and then talk to dad about how everyone is.

I don't hate her, and yes, still planning on moving, but for that I need to work more and preferably find better work.

If you know, you know.
Thanks to Corona, I could not fly over to my dad nor drive to my mom because the country did not permit non-essential journeys out of the country or further than 5km from your place of residence. So that sucked. Now I see my mom about once every two months, still haven't seen my dad since 2019-ish I think.

My father passed in 2015, and I haven't had contact with my immediate family (aside from my younger brother) in years.

Usually once every few months. I live about 2hrs away from where they are so if they come to visit it's usually if they're up in the area anyway and we go out for lunch or something. Every few months I get the train back home to stay over for the weekend if I have some stuff I need to do back there. Usually text every 1-2 weeks or so. I don't really dislike my parents or anything but I have very little to say to them in general, we have nothing really much in common.

I see my Dad once or twice a year as he's kind of a dick. I still live at my Mum's house but when I had money and briefly moved out I still visited every couple of weeks. I aim to see my brother and sister as often as I can but lockdowns and their work schedules get in the way a fair bit
