I really really don't think you would be.

I'm fine with KEEPING A BABY PINNED UP WITH LITTLE ACCESS TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD because it isn't sapient, though. Y'know, like a, hm, maybe like a farm or something.
As for eating it, animals that are painlessly killed or processed for food after a time of their natural death, I can't say that I find an issue with.

I really really don't think you would be.Cool your jetsFirst off, you're talking about two different things at the same time, which makes arguing with you really difficult. Either focus on the ethics of eating them or focus on the ethics of keeping them on a farm, one or the other. Don't just swap the two out to make it look like I'm fine with cruelly killing a baby and eating it because it's not sapient. ah, in that case you're splitting hairs and I can thusly dismiss it.
Just a quick question; Maybe not the relative intelligence but the relative potential? Wouldn't that increase the human child's value over another animal? Although you think that humans are evil themselves so...

A lack of sapience in an animal doesn't stop it from being able to experience various degrees of comfort and satisfaction. A cow that's cramped up in a barn isn't going to be as happy as a cow that's free-range and able to experience a more natural life. If you're going to have cattle, it should be prioritized that they're allowed to roam and graze as they would in nature, to maximize their happiness. As for the "I don't have an issue with killing an animal painlessly after it's lived a long life," I really don't have a massive objection to that, either. The problem is that the kind of killing described there doesn't reflect the actual practices of industrial farms. Animal comfort and health is sacrificed for the purpose of satisfying the demands of customers. It's about money, not ethics. And I take a strong stance against that mentality when it's applied to anything, personally. And if that video on the chicken industry posted last night was true (Seemed plausible), it's really not the chicken farmers themselves that are the assholes in all of this. They want to raise happier, healthier, freer birds, but executives at companies like Tyson don't want to put up with the costs of maintaining an ethical system of raising poultry.
actually, if verb is so convinced that pigs are intelligent to a point comparable to humans, he might have to deal with the fact that wild pigs, the much smarter variant of pig, destroy their environment, are consummate omnivores, and kill each other often, shouldn't he want them "mauled by some predator"?humans are predators.
No, your usage of a fallacy allows me to dismiss your arguments.

splitting hairs is a type of fallacy tater.
Pretty good fart joke, not gonna lie.
Quote from: thepanzieman on December 09, 2015, 01:59:36 PMsplitting hairs is a type of fallacy tater. Not it isn't. You demonstrate your unwillingness to make a distinction between an adult pig and a baby simply because you think it's unfair to compare them based on their maturity—but I'm NOT comparing them in that way. I'm comparing them based on their sapience. Nothing more.So you're committing a straw man.
You're arguing a minor fact to try and dispute the primary, this is splitting hairs.
I am home, on my computerthat I paid for with money gotten from slaughtering animals.
