Nothing like a bit of evangelising on a sunday in the name of the omnissiah

but as a more serious than technotheological question, how do you treat technology in general?

Were you brought up in a house devoid of the digital until you were already reasonably old? And does this correspond to you treating machines carefully and respectfully because of their cost and value?

Were you brought up with an iphone in your cradle?  Do you drop it in the street constantly like a filthy heretek?

The questions here aren't just the usual crazy psy's religious shilling, but more one of psychological curiosity. Whether early exposure to technology devalues it or if it makes no difference?

Generally speaking a lot of the users here fall around the 20 years old mark, give or take a couple of years so it's a fairly close sample to look at in terms of technological availability/progress but the variables will come down to family wealth and access to tech at an early age (amongst other things)

So yeah, if you wouldn't mind describing your general approach and outlook on all things sacred and technological then that would be quite dandy.

I always expect electronics to be fragile, so I try and treat them carefully in regards to that... usually. Sometimes things just need a little slap or brute forcing to cooperate.

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

Treat technology with care, unless it's really old and needs a tune-up.

Percussive Maintenance is an approved rite of the mechanicus

You just have to be careful not to leave any lasting damage to the machine because creating resentment in it's machine-spirit is going to lead to electrocution, gassing, disintegration, explosions and worse.

Of course, it's like taking the heads of your enemies to put on a spike. You can't accomplish a proper decapitation if you mutilate the corpse beyond recognition. All things in moderation.

Do I treat technology with care? What am I, a moron? If it's a computer without a hard case, then of course I'm not gonna kick it and mess it up, but if it has a hard case on, then it can take a blow with the right power. My phone's gonna take damage if dropped from a high place, so I don't drop it, but I am going to drop it on my foot that will make the phone change direction as to divert the speed or energy so that the damage won't be great.

I'm not gonna treat machines like they're people, but I'm not gonna mindlessly throw punches and kicks at them.

This thread is akin to asking how people treat fire. "Do you play with it, or do you stay away from it?" No, motherfucker, I use it to cook the dinosaur I just killed, or heat shit up.

But really, I try to be as careful as I can with everything I have.  Like, I don't understand how people drop their phones so much and break them.  Just stop being cheap and get a good phone case.  Before I got my new phone, I had a samsung rugby, and I'd always try to prove my point by throwing it at a wall.

One thing that's weird, though, is that I've had an otterbox on my ipod since I got it back in 2012, and somehow it's still all scratched up.

My car has a shit ton of cluster issues so you need to bang it up a bit when the odometer starts going haywire. Other than that, I treat my technology with the utmost care. I still have a mint-condition Playstation 1 and Nintendo 64 thanks to this policy.

I threw a little earbud thing onto my desk in irritation and it popped the casing open.

Then I fixed it and felt silly <_<

I treat all my stuff with care. Besides when needing to dispose of a hard drive, then out comes the shovel.

Other than that, the only thing I ever break is headphones. And I have no idea why. My last headset died because I kept picking it up by the wire but apart from that, all my earphones just randomly die on me for no apparent reason.

As a kid our car was a piece of junk held together with spare parts, and my grandparent's car was even worse (it's been passed around the family for a few decades now and only recently died), so I guess I've grown to appreciate how reliable tech can be.

We didn't have a television until I was five and it was a stupidly large cathode ray tv, and we didn't even get dial up internet until a bit later; even then I thought they seemed outdated and I couldn't for the life of me work out how to use the internet (but having your hair stand up on your arm if you put it next to the tv was the coolest shit), so i just played those cheap "5000 shovelware games on one disc" games, and rented a ps1 with crash bandicoot (but we couldn't rent a memory card for it so I had to try an keep the game running all night in order to keep my save progress...it never worked).

later on we got a gamecube and xbox and it blew my mind what they could do, especially compared to the really shitty games that you could play on certain tv channels using the tv remote. we got a ps2 even later and I finally understood why nobody had an xbox except for halo.

Much later we got a 360 and a real computer with non-dial up internet, that was another mind changing moment seeing how much better the tech was, but it still took me a long time to understand how to even find anything on the internet.
Spoiler
did anybody else have to resort to image searching "girls in bikinis"?

A few years ago I finally got a laptop and ever since i've been able to understand technology quite well, but I only got a cellphone this year and I don't think I'll ever understand the culture around it (and for fuck's sake the word is application). Also I was amazed that I could drag my finger across the keypad screen and the phone is able to accurately predict what i'm trying to type based on where my finger changes directions, it's far better than what my parents had with having to press the same key 3 times for the letter c.

Oh man, that was annoying.

But the upside was that if you memorized your keys then you could text with 100% accuracy and not even look at the screen because you'd know where you were since you could feel the physical buttons. It's how kids used to text in their pockets during class.

Sigs fo nigs
Other than some xbox controllers dying on me for whatever reason my machines have been treated rather casually.

My phone has a pretty good case and I would only worry if I drop it on concrete or wood floors.
Cleaned my keyboard a month or so ago with a toothbrush and vacuum, fucker looked like it came out of the box. Took like, 2 hours.
My headset ear pads need a new cover pretty bad, they're starting to disintegrate.

I don't purposely damage my technology, but they gather dust and skin pretty damn fast. Soft hands, old house. It's a constant battle.
