How do you take long term bad anticipation?

Say that you could be the victim of something bad, and you won't know for two weeks... How do you take this?

OK, here is the scenario:

You go to the dentist, and you get a regular cleaning and some minor work done. Cavities and all that. A week later the dentist calls you and asks you to come back. He explains that one of his dental assistants was diagnosed HIV+, and cut a finger on the tools that he may have used to clean your teeth. Because he accidentally scraped too deeply on your gums, you had an open wound in your mouth, and you may have been exposed to the AIDS virus. He can't know for sure, so he is getting a test for you to know if you were or not.

It will be two weeks until you get the results.

How do you take the news, and how do you spend the two weeks?

(Now, please ignore the glaring issues with my scenario. I know that this would be a very low chance of transmission, and that the tests return values much more quickly, and that the person may not develop HIV for up to a year after exposure, just please suspend your disbelief, you have been exposed, the results are back in two weeks, and you will not develop HIV later on if the test is negative.)

I have a plan for such things in case I'm ever in such a scenario. When you have a disease like or infection like that, time is of the essence. Some people have outlived their death dates, but I wouldn't ever count on something like that.

So, as much as I would enjoy to spend whatever time I had left with friends and family, I would do otherwise. I'd take my motorhome, roll on out to the tar sands or the oil rigs, and get work there. They are incredibly horrible jobs, but they pay handsomely.

My entire life is devoted to making sure I can keep things stable with my family and ensure they have a brighter future. And to do that, I'd need money. So, if I knew for sure that my time was up, that's exactly what I'd do. My life and whatever happiness there was to be had would be forfiet, and therefore the highest priority would be to do what I could with the time that I had left for those around me.
