How did you end up liking/discovering the bands that you like?

For myself I discovered Tom Petty ATHB due to San Andreas(Running down a dream) and Back To The Barnyard(I won't back down.). When I looked up those two songs on YouTube I ended up listing to other songs of his or the band's in the links. For The Chameleons and ELO that was due to my dad and The Offspring was due to my uncle.

Most, if not all of my stuff was through my family or relatives. My Dad liked Odelay by Beck and then I got the rest of his albums, and my Uncle showed me The Eels.

I can't really say I've found any bands I liked by myself, but I usually delve into them more once someone has showed me them.

After growing up on Christian music and hitting radio post-grunge, I pretty much developed my music taste by discovering Kyuss and Tool and then just dealing with all the bands that surrounded them.

I was given The Killers Hot Fuzz for a white elephant gift many years ago. They've been my favorite band since, with their frontman Brandon Flowers being my favorite solo act.

I discovered NIN because of my dad. He would listen to Pretty Hate Machine in his truck all the time, and though I didn't think much of it when I was little, I relistened to it as a teenager, and I thought it was amazing.

Luckily, my dad bought and collected every single piece off of Trent's discography before I was even born, so I had the entire NIN catalog at my disposal.

Usually random. My friends sometimes play a song I enjoy and I Shazam it. Recently a lot of new discoveries are due to the gym I go to. I also listen to the radio so there's that.

And from watching Rage, a televised Aussie music program.

Games like Need For Speed, Tony Hawk, GTA, and various sports games had songs in them I liked. When I was younger, I would just listen to the songs from those games in the menus and whatnot.

Then later on when I had access to the internet I would go on Youtube and Pandora to look for that music and in return ended up getting more bands and songs that I liked outta that.

Also, friends would show me music similar to the stuff I already liked and that helped out too. My brother got me into liking rap from the 1990s and early 2000s. I'll go back and listen to that every once in a while.

And lastly, growing up and going places with my parents listening to oldies music like Earth Wind and Fire, Kool and the Gang, and Carlos Santana on the radio made me like that type of music.

Pendulum/ Prodigy - friend showed me both

The rest of the music I listen to is odd songs from a band I've heard from games or YT Or friends but not multiple songs. Or video game soundtracks, as well (They make good writing music)
