Because they see it as complacency and unwillingness to take any real actions due to misaligned priorities or lobby groups having politicians in a vice. There's no other developed country in the world with gun violence rates as high as the US or as many schools/public places getting shot up by lone gunmen, and both of these trends have actually been on the rise again in the last few years. Many people either flatout blame American gun culture and its loose gun control policies or consider them at the very least instrumental to or facilitating of all these shootings.

No one has an issue with a politicians offering condolences and sympathies when this happens. People are just upset that "thoughts and prayers" (neither of which actually do anything) have become a substite for any sort of meaningful action and are just mindlessly repeated over and over again as the countdown until the inevitable next shooting starts ticking away.
