Depends on where you go/when you go. On the whole it's got a fairly similar climate to the UK, I went in April and it wasn't cold enough to require a coat but it certainly wasn't scorching hot <.<
That was in tokyo/fuji area, I imagine if we went to Kyushu it would have been a bit warmer or Hokkaido to make it colder <.<

It was around 8-10c when I was there <.<

It was also timed very nicely because all the sakura trees were in bloom that week >_>
