A little while ago I learned that a donair, something that I assumed everyone knew about, is a dish that was created about an hour away from where I live.

Apparently somebody in Halifax tried to open a shop that sold gyros during the early 70's but no one was buying them, so instead he altered the recipe and made a sweet sauce to go with it.

Not even close. Donairs have slices of seasoned meat (normally beef or lamb), tomatoes, onions, and donair sauce wrapped in flatbread.

That's basically what it's based off of, but it uses different a different sauce and toppings.

That ain't a new dish or anything... my Turkish takeaway do those.
