I can't say that it's been smooth sailing. This year is like walking on a tight rope. But so far I've managed to stay upright for things. It's sure as hell no picnic, but I'm not complaining. Things could always be worse.

Seriously, the contract I'm on is looking like it's going to turn into a 100k a year salary + bonuses up to 20% per quarter within the year, and until then I'm making ~75% of that in weekly pay as a 1099. I was on a 7-month unemployed slump before this.

I got a positive drug test and didn't get fired, so it hasn't been too bad. Probably won't get my advancement at the end of the year, though.

You ever thought of expanding your operations? Like starting your own business?

No point in incurring the extra cost/pita when 1099 suits all my needs. The business type you are referring is the same as the company who is currently my primary client, which is also the company that will be putting me on full-time this year at the 100k base salary + bonus structure. It might be useful if I wanted to expand beyond my own work and add contractors to my offerings, but I'm good with the direction I'm going atm.
