I figured I post this since this is probably an unknown sword technique to you. I ended up finding out about this today. Who know you could use a sword with your hand on the blade like that.

Maybe but it is a good idea. If you want to pierce the armor you would have more control and be more accurate by doing it like that.

Just keep a tight grip so the blade can't slide on your hand and you're fine, even without gloves.
