I've watched all the seasons like 4 times

I've yet to read the book or watch the show. I do however own the book - do you recommend I read it before beginning the show?

I hate medieval stuff, but I found it surprisingly addictive. There are way too many sex scenes in there, though. After a while it seems like they're just doing it to show off their ability to do so.
