I remember my cousin got into anime last year (about a decade after its heyday, but whatever). I recommended a few that I liked, such as Death Note and Monster, and asked what he was watching currently. Go ahead and guess his answer.

Fuck that shit. He couldn't have picked a worse show to jump on with. It's like starting Halo with the second game. Even worse than Dragonball Z.

Well you can if you want, but you won't be blinded by childhood nostalgia going into it so you probably won't like it as much as someone who grew up with it.

If you start with the original dragonball just make sure to keep a guide with you so you can skip all the filler and watch DBZ Kai to avoid the endless filler once you get to that part of the story as well.

This is also one of the rare instances that the English dub is better than the sub.

Edit: the only canon movies are Bardock: Father of Goku, History of Trunks, Battle of Gods, and Revival F!.
