I'm pretty sure most civilised people are with Paris against the attacks, so why even bother? It's not even a fight, and you're "standing with Paris". There's no argument between the attackers and France, so why do you "Stand with Paris"? How do you stand with Paris?

OP just because you word it differently you can't fool me into believing you don't understand what they're talking about.  As for the rest is this post really predicated on the idea that everyone obviously stands with Paris and so explicitly stating as much rather than relying on the silent implication is objectionable somehow?

I get that they want to support Paris, but "We stand with Paris" isn't the right thing to type. No, most people aren't that involved, and thus can't "stand with Paris". The thread is however assuming that most civilised people

It's true that calling it "standing with" Paris is an overly romanticized way of putting it and most people don't mean anything special by it, it's what happens when you're trying to convey an emotional viewpoint.
