Getting offended on someone's behalf (who is not offended) just seems dumb tho.
I'm not offended on Dillane's behalf.

I'm pissed off because they made somebody go through emotional hardship for a pointless scene. Were it a good scene? Sure, go for it.

But, no. HBO has been fucking up the show for a while now.
He took the job. They didn't make him do anything. Unless that PBS link suggests they had him at gun point?
The scene wasn't pointless either. Just different from the books.

Yeah he felt sad for a bit. That sucks, but its not a bad thing, or the end of the world. Life is sad sometimes.

Lemme see if I can find something directly from Stephen Dillane.

emigrate or degenerate. the choice is yours
to be fair, he is an actor. it's part of his job. the story wasn't written with his trauma in mind.

and for all we know, the director and whatnot could have been super accommodating to his needs and made it as comfortable as possible for him. maybe.
Or the could've just not done the pointless fucking scene in the first place? I mean, come on.

What was even the point? They'd bastardised the character enough, made him look like a bitch, and then make him burn his fucking daughter for no reason other than shock value and to further their assassination of Stannis's character. It wouldn't even be that big a deal if they didn't put him through so much shit to shoot a pointless scene, regardless of how nice they might've been.
In fairness though, GRRM has plans for him to burn Shireen, allegedly.

Still doesn't excuse the bastardization of the character.

There is literally no source for this except for a Tumblr post.
I backtraced the original screencap to PBS's website, and there's also a mention of it on moviepilot.

No, you saw that the url said "pbs.twimg", which means someone tweeted the screencap to PBS at some point, because they sure as hell don't have it on their feed. So PBS isn't the source.

Also, his sister's name is Sarah Dillane, and she lives in Australia. And she is distinctly alive and unburnt.

Source? I'm convinced she ain't dead now, but the only thing I could find indicating she was in Australia was a 2009 thread from a backwater forum with a link to an inaccurate ancestry.com family tree.

Spoiler
"Backtraced" it to PBS was supposed to be a joke, by the way.

Because. . . Y'know. . .

Well, duh. It's obvious Stannis ain't dead.

He might as well be, though, given what they've done to his character. How far are you through the books, now?

80% through book 4. I would almost recommend skipping it and reading the Wikipedia summary. Or skip the first half or something. It's such a shitty book, I can't even comprehend how GRRM pulled it off after such a good start in 1-3. And I use the term "shitty" relatively; it's still great characterization and depth, but it felt like he left the parking brake on after the rising action of book 3.

Really?

I'm about halfway through AFFC. I'm enjoying it thus far. Although the Brienne storyline and the shit in Dorne feel a bit slow.

That said, though, I'm looking forward to ADWD much more for Jon and Davos's storylines.

Maybe it's because I haven't had much time to read and it's very painful a couple chapters at a time. Dorne is basically nonexistent after that first shitstorm, and Brienne just spends the entire book wandering around the forest occasionally murdering some assholes.
Spoiler
And she gets her face chewed off, but whatevs.

What is it you don't like about the book specifically? Just the fact that it's slow-going?

Have you enjoyed any of the story arcs? I'm liking Cersei's and Jaime's at the moment. Although the amount of characters makes it rather broken-up.

It's immensely slow with almost no action, and that includes the witty dialog between certain characters. Cersei's my favorite, and I really love how bitchy she is to Margaery. Sam shouldn't even be in the book, and Arya's scenes are basically the same thing repeated over and over. I totally get that he's solidifying the major characters and setting up the narrative for drastic change to come. I really get it. But his 1-3 are very dynamic and suspenseful; I feel none of that here.

I get what you mean. It doesn't have the pace that the other books, especially ASOS, had. If he'd split it chronologically instead of based on character location it'd probably be better. I'm enjoying it more from a lore perspective I suppose, with the knowledge that I'll be reading ADWD like immediately after I finish.

What you got against Sam? (Although I must admit to finding him quite boring; he's pretty much just a vehicle for the plot).

Book 5 isn't much better, unfortunately, and both have pretty shitty endings imo. It's definitely going to payoff with all this important setup for the remainder of the series.
