Roaches are pests, mice are pests, a raccoon is not. And of course a kid is going to get bitten if they stupidly try to pet any wild animal they see. I guess under this logic we should just kill snapping turtles, Pine Martens, or Gila Monsters too. Those all bite and aren't afraid of humans, I guess they're automatically pests and should be shot.

So what if he shot a wild raccoon? Why all this drama over it. It's not like it was a domestic pet that relied on someone to survive. They're pests. They bite kids and aren't really afraid of humans. They also carry a host of diseases and parasites. Unless he drove the thing miles away, it would have come back. My only criticism is taking 5 shots when one or two would have been sufficient. You had a rifle, didn't you? Just put the barrel in the cage and right to center mass and pull the trigger. Headshots are really hard with these things. Too small a head. If you really wanted to kill it instantly, you should have had some one almost let it out, just so it's head is out, pin it by the neck with the cage, and crushed its head with a big rock. Or just threw the cage (if it's closed on the bottom, in a lake or river and then fished it out so you could use the cage again. Why waste ammo at all?

unless an animal is gonna be extinct, if its on your property, you can kill it. so long as you arent intentionally torturing it theres no reason why not
