it amazes me that the Microsoft Office Suite is still a thing......

Nope.

I got Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 for free directly from Microsoft because in their user research survey that they sent me via email, I stated it that I was dissatisfied with their products, and they chose to send me a package directly from their HQ. The address was from Richmond WA, and I got emailed that it's on it's way at my apartment.

When it came, it was a a copy of what I just said.

Talk about trying to get me to buy there shit, it kinda worked. I upgraded to 8.1 later last year.

If you know, you know.
Outlook 2010 > others

Microsoft provides better support for products too.

Google Docs, and Libre Office are inferior in many ways compared to Microsoft Office. Honestly, you would think that they would have caught up by now, but they simply can't when it comes to business. If Microsoft did something right then it was Office, and also selling it.

Now, as to actually pay for Office? Not really, my uni gave it to me for free, and I also have an older version of office that was given to me from a job in the past.

Edit: The biggest deal-breaker for me is the feature to allow me to create scripts. I had to work with scripts to make some projects on Excel faster and less of an issue. Google Docs only recently added support for that, and script support on Libre Office on Linux is a hit or miss.

Yeah, and certain features you can find in Outlook are also hard to get on Thunderbird, Gmail and Apple Mail.

Feet first into fun!
I feel like a lot of businesses would use office. Also I'm not 100% on this but wouldn't the universities themselves have to pay for it when you get it for "free"?

Are you for real? I've never worked in an office before that didn't use Outlook, Excel, Word, and Access on the daily. For home use you could get by with Google and other alternatives, but when everyone else is using MS Office, you'd be dumb not to.

Besides, it really is the best solution on the market.

What about Apache Open Office?
