When you're feeling really shitty given IRL events, how do you cheer yourself up. Been mulling this over a few days now, and I rarely (if ever) have asked any of you for help.

I'd say it kinda depends on the type of shit you're going through, but I don't know how comfortable you are in getting into that.

Most people are probably going to suggest drugs/alcohol, which I would obviously abhor if you did.

A good catch-all solution for me, if I wanted to cheer myself up, is listen to music that matches my mood. Not only do I have something to project my emotions on, which feels good, I get to sort of occupy my mind and lose myself in the beat, after which I achieve a momentary catharsis where I'm the most powerful being in the world for a brief moment.

It's very meditative, and even if my problems aren't solved, it's still very uplifting. Not for everybody, though.

Random thought. I've had the urge to change my avvie a few times to something that's not Rin, but then I know I'll miss Rin. It's basically my shtick anyway.

I'm also going back to college if anyone is curious. Last I left you all, I said I dropped out. Gonna major in political science.

Hmm

If it's just feeling generally shitty, without a clear reason why then I tend to just throw myself at work until I'm exhausted. Studying doesn't really work well for that but any sort of physical labour that doesn't require a lot of thinking is a good way to sort yourself out (for me at least) because you get the twin benefits of burning off the adrenaline through exercise and having space to sort out your head.

Kinda my plan for today actually, work pissed me off royally last night so despite that I'm gonna go and put my back out shoving crates of god knows what today until I feel better.

That's a somewhat situational thing though, not everyone has that particular kind of work so something like running (as you've said itt) or heavy yard work might fulfil the same purpose, even if it's pretty pointless like moving a load of bricks from one side of the garden to the other ad nauseam.

What I do will probably sound strange and you most likely won't do it but here it goes:

When I'm at a low point in my life or feeling really down, I don't try to immediately make myself happy. Getting over it that quickly seems fake. Like the happiness isn't genuine.

What I do is embrace the feeling. Fully immerse yourself in the sadness/pain/frustration that you feel. Listen to sad music that reflects how you're feeling. Write down all your terrible thoughts on a peace of paper. Break something, or let yourself break down and cry. Just feel the emotions to the fullest. We're not meant to be happy every single second.

I also always keep in the back of my head that this is temporary, and that although I'm feeling down now, I won't feel like that forever and eventually I'll bounce back. I think it's important to keep this in the back of your head because hope is what's going to drive you out of rock bottom

Then after you've finally felt all you can feel, you're going to start finding a small fire burning in you. Build on that momentum and you'll eventually be in a better place than you ever were

At least that's what I do

Going on Halo Reach, setting firefight settings to insta kill/ invulnerable/ bottomless magazine was always good stress relief. Just sit there mowing down enemies with a turret.

Listen to some melancholic music, play some games. Maybe do some shit with friends.

It won't get you over it, but it doesn't make you feel as shitty.
