I have long hair and act effeminate, but I'm a white cis male. My younger brother even has long nails, still a cis white male.
and yet you both probably still look like guy, so your effeminate nature probably doesn't override that at all

what's your point

are you this dense on purpose

and even if someone were confused, you would just correct them, as people do

i used to have long hair as a kid, and people would mistake me for a girl on occasion--and i would correct them

they would apologize, and i would say, "that's okay"

and then i would fucking forget about it

this is so unbelievably fucking simple, i have to wonder how you function socially at all

You're talking about gender signifiers even there are none. Being a cross dresser doesn't even change your gender, you just like dressing like the other gender occasionally.

My point is that trying to guess someone's gender when it doesn't match their sex is pretty goddamn difficult.

You've obviously never come across somehow where this is a problem. Not everyone is as easy going as you are.

it's actually the easiest thing in the goddamn world and you're a turbo-autist if you can't do it

i'm serious

even if you guess wrong, that shit happens all the time, and it's not the end of the fucking world--oops, you mistook someone for a girl, oh well, nobody cares

you mentioned cross-dressers--uh, guy, the entire point of being a cross-dresser is to be ambiguous and confusing

they're playing around with gender expectations, and if you're confused by that, then they've done their job

if there's a transgirl (someone who is biologically male but identifies as female), chances are, they're going to present themselves as such, and you'll know just by looking at them that they identify as female

but if you're genuinely not sure, there are easy ways to work around it--i'm not going to school you through them all, because again, these are basic social things that everyone should have gathered by the time they became 5

one way is to avoid using third person pronouns around them, because it's not like you NEED them anyway if you're speaking directly to them

Avoiding using his or her (or xer) preferred pronouns is a pretty shit thing to do.

Huh.
"all the time" relative to how easy it is

so basically never, but even when it does happen, it's really not a big deal if you mistake someone's gender

if they make a big deal out of it, then they're a bitch

that's my point

Tyger never got back to me on what the problem was. And today was great, I'm feeling more comfortable around QT every time we do a meetup.

not if you're speaking directly to them, which is what i just said

this message is being typed for you, so i'm using second-person pronouns (you, your, etc.), not third-person pronouns

second-person pronouns do not signify gender, so you're completely safe

Sure thing verb. You are right in that it makes them an asshole. They're basically baiting a wrong answer just to get mad about it.

When speaking directly to the person yes this can be avoided. It's still a tip toe procedure though.

Our interactions don't seem to make it seem like they're gauging me, and if it was they would know that's not the case. Furthermore, the other one knows I'm trying to spend more time with the QT (they're really close) so I'm pretty sure I'm in the clear on that department.

Basically he's saying they think you're gay or just want to be friends

But sometimes they'll bring a friend to gauge you and act like it's just a friend get together

Girls figure out pretty early on whether or not they're willing to date you. It's very hard to convince them otherwise.

It's more just me being frustrated because I was chewed out for a solid thirty minutes for misgendering someone.

Totally innocent mistake on my part but that's not how it was viewed.

Asking is the easiest and most direct method. You could pussyfoot around for six months though, if you're a big fan of wasting time.

I don't have six months. I have until the end of July if I'm lucky.

But the problem is I physically am unable to bring myself to escalate things. Asking someone out on a date? I'll just open my mouth and nothing will come out.

Fear and anxiety will do you no favors. It's hard but it's not impossible. What are you hoping to get out of the relationship?

Why should distance keep me from that? I'm not saying distance doesn't make it harder, but it's not impossible.

Every girl I meet that lives within my radius just isn't my type. And I find that she seems to mesh well with my morals and beliefs. Should I pass her up for somebody I don't match well with just because she lives somewhere else? I don't particularly agree with that logic.

If she is leaving so soon, what's the point of pursuing her?

I would ask her soon then. No time like the present.

The last time I tried with a different girl two years ago it went horribly.
