Favorite depiction of a post-apocalyptic setting?

Like, I'd like the fallout universe more if it wasn't nuclear summer, because iirc nuclear summer wouldn't be a thing, only nuclear winter.

I don't know much about these things though so I might be wrong.

Mad Max. In Fury Road, George Miller wanted the setting to look as colorful as possible to contrast it with other more cliched styles of post-apocalyptia (ie. dark, bleak, dilapidated everything). The result was magnificently beautiful.

That said, post-apocalyptic settings are severely overdone and I wish it would die.

Especially if you're gonna pair it with zombies or something.

Why? The Road Warrior, Mad Max etc are an awesomely depicted post apocalyptic break down. It shows how man against man and environmental collapse would be hard, but also the truest form of freedom. I agree with you.

they wouldn't because in the fallout lore it would be impossible for a nuclear winter, only a nuclear summer.

Ah, actually, I gave that some thought. IIRC, the Fallout-verse has a different set of laws than ours. There's different properties to certain atomic particles that can't function in our respective universe. If you want a reason as to why there's no nuclear winter in Fallout, it's for two reasons.

The nukes fell over 200 years ago in the current timeline. Nuclear winter was likely experienced in the early days, but the difference about Fallout's nuclear weapons is that they have a shorter half life than ours. So basically, all the damage came from the heat of the blasts, but less so from the lingering radiation.

This also explains why so many technologies in Fallout are able to use fusion and other atomic based things on small scale levels, as well as generally non-lethal levels.

It was probably my favorite novel that I had read in my high school years.
Didn't really find anything wrong with it, aside from stumbling across some things that are just oddly written and marked up to the translation.
