Let's use Game of Thrones as an example. Some people watch it later than others.

A new episode airs, and most of Steve's friends have seen it. Steve has to wait a few more hours to watch it because he's in work. On his lunch break Steves decides to browse Facebook on his phone and to his horror, scrolls past a major spoiler from the episode. Steven then proceeds to make a post on Facebook complaining about said spoilers. Should he have realized by that point that if most of your friends watch it, it's highly likely that someone is going to be talking about it?

Posting spoilers is still a scummy thing to do, but if you go onto social media in the aftermath of an episode that most people except you have seen, you're risking it. Shouldn't people know that by now?

it would be nice if people were more considerate, but since they aren't, proper precautions ought to be taken, especially if you're the type of person to consider minor plot details spoilers

Exactly, you can't really expect everyone else to be as considerate as you'd like them to be, especially in this day and age.

Or make the better decision to just not care about anything.
