I was watching Narcos season 2 on Netflix, and after several highly explicit scenes, I just stopped. I realized that I was hurting myself.

Content like that makes me uncomfortable, and only serves to put me in a bad mood, and negatively effects my opinion of people in general.

I like thinking I live in a sterile, sexless world. I feel as though life is like Mr. Roger's neighborhood. Everyone is sincere and nice, I smile at people and they smile back, I say "have a nice day!" and everything is well and good.

When I see explicit content, that illusion is ripped away and I feel as though I live in the damn red light district of Amsterdam. Everything feels filthy and abhorrent. There is no innocence, nothing is sincere.

Why put myself through that? Why make myself more jaded? There's no point.

Sorry this turned into an incoherent rant; I am tired. I dunno, you all probably disagree and think I'm some bizarre mental case but whatever. Hey, at least it's a thread; we could certainly use more of those.

I agree and feel the same way, but for less juvenile reasons.

It's not something that would make me stop watching a tv show unless it was outweighing the actual content. But yeah I generally agree.

It particularly annoyed me in Game of Thrones, the first two or three seasons had that kind of stuff placed in for absolutely no reason. At least the more recent seasons have cut down on that massively.

Thankfully I usually watch stuff recorded, on dvd or through streaming so I just skip it.

I agree, I like Game of Thrones but those sex or nude scenes to it I find to be cringy and just pointless. Even for the sex scenes which happened in the book I find to be pointless to include in the show. Each season is limited to 10 episodes which means the show is going to be either leaving out or changing content from the books. Those sex scenes we're seeing could have been scenes from the book which would have been more enjoyable to watch. I would rather have seen a longer scene for the wolfs being found, than watch that brothel scene with the Imp. That right their added nothing at all to the show.

Then there's the budget which is being spent stupidly. Instead of using it to have more characters from the books or truer scenes, it's being used those sex or nude scenes. Ros was a pointless and depthless character, that scene with her in Littlefingers brothel was just dumb and there's the scene where Joff commanded a whore to beat another whore. All that shit is adding nothing to the show, it's just a waste of money. The true Battle of The Green Fork would have been far more enjoyable then all those sex scenes and Strong Belwas or Aeron Greyjoy would have added far more to the show than what Ros the whore did.

Gratuitous fan service in general is just annoying since it's basically filler or a substitute for decent characters or writing (unless you're watching something that basically just exists to be fan service), but it's not like I'm gonna be completely put off a show just because someone keep whipping their tits out every half an hour and cry about my innocence being ruined.

Yeah I really don't see the point of sex scenes in general. I'm not gunna jerk off while watching kingdom of heaven, ya feel me?

I really have no use for sex scenes, except if you're watching with someone and it gets their motor revving. Really the only use for "tastefully done" sex scenes in cinema.

Haven't seen the season so I'm not sure what you're specifically referring to, but I'm of the mindset that gratuitous violence or sexuality is completely unnecessary unless it serves a purpose for the characters or plot -- think of the sex scene from Gone Girl or Sicario, or any scene with Ramsay in GoT. If it's there just to be provocative or disturb, it's probably pointless fan service, which is synonymous with lazy filler.

There have been like, four extremely explicit sex scenes four episodes in. Not one has any narrative significance that it apparent to me.

Not that your point is moot. TV, in general, is a mirror of society. If people didn't want violence and sex on the airwaves, they'd make a point to complain about it and stop it.

Personally, I'm a fan of older programs that kept the shock/sex factor to a minimum, or out of the main focal point.
