I'm from AZ where we put rocks in our yard instead of grass because watering is so expensive and it has to be reseeded often because it dies in the summer. I moved to Florida and the house I'm renting has a really shitty yard, and I'm interested in growing a lawn for my dog to enjoy. I've looked up some basic guides and it doesn't seem too complicated, but if you've done it before or know anything about landscaping, drop some tips my way.

I just threw down grass seed, covered it in straw, watered it once or twice, and let the superior northern climate take care of the rest.

Astroturf is a good long-term investment, but for a rental it's not a smart buy. If I owned the house I'd consider it.

I've seeded a couple times but literally all I did was scatter seeds on the dirt. When my dad had me do it at our house, we also covered the dirt with straw so it would grow faster. I live in Ohio so I get pretty consistent rain. If this won't work for you I'd recommend moving to a better state.
