Of courseWhat’s your take on the ending?Hopeful or nah?
Quote from: Ingy on December 09, 2019, 04:07:37 PMOf courseWhat’s your take on the ending?Hopeful or nah?it's definitely hopeful, almost to a fault reallyif you have the opportunity to (basically) save everyone from their own lives, and are tempted to do so because of how shitty people are to each other, i think to ultimately reject it because of some notions of it "all being worth it in the end" would certainly require a semblance of hope in your heartthough i relate with shinji a lot, i'd have to say that shinji's choice to abandon instrumentality and start life anew is where we kind of diverge, since i don't really share that hope and i'd be perfectly content living as a puddle of tang for the rest of time if it meant nobody ever had to feel pain againi can certainly understand the decision from a storytelling standpoint, though, and i can appreciate that shinji wound up giving everybody the choice to return if they were so inclined to come backi wasn't actually expecting them to just end the world and leave it there--i'm not even sure if that's what i'd want
>Asuka>Best girl
Don't tell me you're a Rei fanboy
Significantly better but still incorrect. SpoilerIt’s MisatoQuote from: Ingy on December 09, 2019, 08:52:11 PMDon't tell me you're a Rei fanboy
asuka is the worst character in the entire thingugh fuck wait mari exists though shit fuckasuka is really badnever came close to understanding her appeal
bear in mind that i mean "least likable character," i don't think asuka is badly written or anythingi just don't like tsunderes who are ALL tsun; i think the only nice thing she ever says is compliment shinji on his cello playinga few more of those moments would've gone a long way for me, because i just found her insufferable for the entire showwhich is tragic because you can tell they would've been better friends if not for their shitty circumstances; it's the epitome of a relationship starting off on the wrong foot and literally never correcting itself because they're just too fucking awkwardi remember watching the dance like you want to win episode for the first time, where shinji and asuka have to get over themselves and start getting along with each other so they can be in-sync, and i was expecting that development to last, but then it doesn't really, which always bugged meyeah yeah her backstory is tragic and whatever but that doesn't make her likable imo; i can definitely appreciate the role she has in the story, but i could never call her a favorite character just based off of her personality aloneshe was also sexualized a bit too much for my liking; i always dread those stupid panty/nude gags on rewatchesout of curiosity, did you watch the netflix subs? and if not, did you make sure to watch the director's cuts of the last few episodes
ive been searching for the same high i got after watching it years ago and never got it from other anime

Rei had a problem, she went through Instrumentality, she got over it.
Did she thoRei was barely even a character tbhShe kinda was just there
She's a lot more subtle than the others but it was definitely there. She went from praising the ground Gendo walked on to full on hating him by the end of the series. She had to deal with her nature as both a clone to a real person and being an Angel at the same time. Throughout the series she thought she was just some sacrificial pawn to Gendo's ends until she chose not to be.
