I'm sorry the series ended on a low note for you. Personally, I thought it was a worthy conclusion to a great story, and I'm glad that it never continued only to go downhill like so many other tales.
Halo 3 in general isn't that good. The plot/story is pretty weak for most of the game, and only really becomes somewhat good near the end of the game.
Bungie's Halos took a steep dive after 2 (ODST being an exception).

The story did go downhill, but Halo 4 bought it back up.

Halo 4 doesn't exist. The story ended with Halo 3.

It was amazing, the hell are you on? Are you one of those people who wanted it to just outright answer every question and tie the whole thing up in a nice little package?

I watched it because I found it be an interesting series, not because it was scary. It ended a few months ago and everyone hated the ending but me. It was a Lost-esque ending where basically nothing was explained--but that's what I loved about it. It wouldn't make sense if everything was explained.

I wanna play ME3 just to say that the ending wasn't bad. Just to piss people off. But it's probably just easier to continue referring to it as the retarded alien sex simulator that it is.
It being bad has more to do with advertising lies than anything story related. Well, excluding the huge asspull.

Lead writer advertised 16 different endsings, and that it wouldn't be a red, blue,  or green ending. And it totally was.

From my understanding, a lot of bullshit happened behind the scenes that caused the ending to end up the way it did - both with EA pushing for a quicker release and with the exchange of writers. Is it kinda disappointing learning of what they had originally intended? Somewhat, but I'm content with the ending we got (with the Extended Cut at least). I prefer it to be bitter-sweet, there are too many happy endings.

Good for you, but I didn't. It was great up until I realized this was the last entry ever (until the movie). I was thinking they'd move on to the Operator being the main antagonist, especially since up until this point he could have been removed from the story entirely and it wouldn't change much. I didn't want them to explain his origins or anything like that - that would defeat his entire purpose - but I wanted them to expand on the genuinely supernatural, Lovecraftian portions of the series, especially since he's supposed to be the man-behind-the-man. Alex is dead, but the (not-so) story-driving villain isn't.

Instead I get Tim lolnoping his way out of the show and ending it in such an anticlimactic, amateurish way.

I can, however, judge it on my own terms. I have no reason for continued loyalty; they produce little webisodes to watch, and I'll watch as long as it keeps me interested. If I dislike how it turns out, well, I have the right to voice my disappointment. And apparently the majority is in agreement.

It's the same as any novel series, or video game series, or movie series. If it disappoints me at any point, I'll stop following it. If the ending disappoints me, then I'll consider it a bad ending. Especially if everything up until that point was stuff I considered good.

well i'm just saying, even by it's own terms, i don't even see how it's a bad ending

the reason why the majority dislikes it is because it doesn't answer questions like the operator's origins
which you said you don't care about

what you wanted for them was to expand upon the mythos more
which, of course, not everybody cares about--it wasn't the mythos that made it compelling for me

it was the realism
and the ending is the most real ending they possibly could've done, in my perspective

Hm. Well, what I mainly wanted was for them to intertwine the Operator with the events that occurred, and get him more involved in the story, instead of treating him like an occasional plot device. EverymanHYBRID does this right - I like watching the characters try to cope with the supernatural experiences they go through. Which makes it odd and, frankly, disappointing when the characters in Marnets don't even comment on the crazy shit that goes down. Jay tries to wrestle with the Operator and loses seven months-worth of memory? Nope, not worth discussing that tall, faceless thing, just going to talk about how inconvenient amnesia is.

They had the perfect opportunity for Tim to focus on the Operator, the biggest villain of the story, the one responsible for all this, the one who caused all the suffering he experienced from the start of the show, the most personal adversary he has, and something he himself led straight to Alex...except when the ending comes, the Operator isn't even referenced in passing. Like, what? Did Tim just get bored? Is that why he fucked off instead of even attempting to find out more? There's no reason the Operator wouldn't come back for him - hell, he was the first one to see the thing. It's literally his arch-enemy. Instead he just gave up after killing Alex, with absolutely no reason to do so.

It seems less like the creators left the ending open and more like they decided 'fuck it, let's just end it here.'

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.

Mass Effect 3 actually had a six month extension from its original release date, I can understand why EA wanted it out of the door considering they rarely allow games to be pushed back at all. Another thing was that the ending was written by Casey Hudson and Mac Walters without input from the rest of the team (So said Patrick Weekes, one of the game's writers, before telling Penny Arcade not to mention his name with the piece) which makes it even more incredulous.

Only good part was Tuchanka and the multiplayer (sans the microtransactions). Star Child can go fuck himself in any case, and so can his pick-a-flavor endings.

i'd have to rewatch the series to really demonstrate why, too, though
but i don't got time for that
