Good movie, ending on the other hand, no so great.

I don't really understand what exactly happened at the end.

Is it another universe where he controls what happens, or is he immortal now since if he dies he wakes up at the moment when he's on the helicopter. Also why did it bring him two days back instead of one? So many questions

PSA: If you see it under the name "Live Die Repeat" it's the same film, the studio just changed the name in case the DVD sales bomb like the box office did.

The name of the light novel was "All You Need Is Kill" which is really Engrish-y but it's kind of catchy >.>

that's what confuses me. He wakes up two days before the attack on the beach. Instead of the day of the attack. When he wakes up on the helicopter he still knows everything, and where the mind is. So I guess he tells the general and they nuke the fuck out of it. I've heard that because he knows how to defeat it, that the mimics leave once someone knows how to defeat them

In the original story he and the girl Rita both are also backups and to end it they have to kill one or the other. So one dies and the loop ends and the story carries on from where we left off.

My problem with the film:

The girl says she had he power and "lost it". How the fuck would she know she couldn't come back to life while she was still alive? I know she said she had a feeling it was gone or something, but Tom Cruise's character didn't have a feeling when he acquired the power.

it's true she had no way of telling, that being said, they imply it when Tom cruise dies, they show the blood spilling on him again, so he regained the power. So it implies that the lady was right, the blood transplant makes you lose the power.

What's even worse is this. If he got the alphas blood on him, and he died and got reset, he wouldn't have the blood in him anymore, therefore he only has the power once. A major flaw in the story.

I did like the story up until around the end. The final reset made no sense.

Wouldn't it have made more sense that he woke up on those bags at the military base and then the black shouty dude would say something like "At ease, maggot. D-Day's cancelled"

Come to think of it, there were a few problems...

The start. Why would a CO put essentially a propaganda officer on the frontlines, considering he had no training to use those super expensive suits?
Just so the director could justify 30 minutes of essentially "training montage" footage?

Then the resets. Why reset a day before, on the bags? Why not several seconds before he kills that Alpha?
I suppose it's so the film can have a good-ending-where-nobody-dies-but-the-badguy thing, but c'mon.

Plus the only way the FMB could know she had lost the power was if she died...meaning she wouldn't have been there in the first place.

I mean... how would the girl know she lost her power? It's only activated when she dies, and she's never died and not come back to life (thanks to the power) so how would she possibly be able to guess that losing the blood makes you lose the power, when it hasn't been tested at all?
