when people are just completely averse to engaging in deep conversation? i find constant small talk to be such a bore and i have to suffer through it day-in and day-out, but when i want to bring the conversation to a more interesting and thought-provoking level, most people shy away instantly.

"nah talking about that is a waste of time, man"
"i'm not trying to worry about that kinda shit"
"that's too personal"

idk, when it comes to talking to people that i have a friendly interest in, i'd rather talk about more interesting shit than sports or the shit they've done that day.

This is mostly why I don't talk to my mother much.  I try to have actual conversations, but it's like she can't be damned to listen.  But my best friend and I get into some p good conversations.  Even if sometimes they do repeat, something new gets added each time.

Some people just take a long time to open up. I'm that way.

I enjoy this with most of my friends. Currently the topics are women, migrants/refugees, and Slavoj Zizek.

One friend I know talks a lot... about nothing. I'm at a point where I can just say "mhm" every time he pauses having heard nothing, and maintaining this for a full hour without him noticing.

I tend to have an easier time doing conversations when over text. Gives me more time to think about what to say.

However, face to face/voice to voice deep conversations are difficult for me. When someone does that, I tend to keep it to short responses, not giving a good reply and trying to switch subjects.

id love to engage in some nice conversation but i cant for the life of me be able to hold a one because i just find myself boring or think im being nosy and such towards the other person. granted im improving little by little, it still sticks to me

Most of the time I try to discuss something deep and meaningful it ends in an argument.

I have friends I can talk with tho, they usually don't just brush off what I say and think of thoughtful responses that give me insight into how others view things.

I feel like people younger than me are at a real disadvantage tho, what with the snowflake generation. I simultaneously pissed off a whole room at an fsu house party by suggesting that Islam is a serious problem that can't be solved by kindness alone.

To each their own tho.
