My wedding cost about $5k not including rings. Parents helped a lot. Had 80 people there, so not too big (big = 100+). Small is nice because it costs less, but it also means fewer gifts. That sounds selfish, but if you're in your early 20s without an established household, you're gonna need them, and it's good to be pragmatic.

Damn you guys have totally changed my views on marriage. As soon as she's back from the store (allowing me to do other things instead) I'll let my wife know that marriage is pointless. It'll be hard losing half my income, but that really wasn't anything important.

you're a christian, so it obviously means a lot more to you than most people here

all i'm saying is, if you're gonna try and defend it, you're gonna have to come up with benefits that are exclusive to marriage, because none of us really have that emotional connection to the sanction of marriage like you do

almost everything you listed can be easily applied to domestic partnerships outside of wedlock
