For example, a certain user hasn't posted since 2016 but was active a few days ago and he's not the only one. What's stopping users from posting on the forums?

It was a bad idea to name him, my mistake. But yeah it's true that some people have been quite rude to lurkers and new users. That's part of the reason why I was barely active after I made my account in 2014.

It's true. That first interaction I had with you a few years ago discouraged me from posting here (I don't care about that now though and I have nothing against you) and others didn't treat me too well. I've seen others "leave" for similar reasons as well.

I just checked my history to confirm. I pretty much only interacted with new users 3 times. Thing is, I don't care about new users, but if they're cool I'll encourage them, if not, I understand that they're younger people who have learned different norms and customs, so I don't bang with them.

If the content was that shitty then they wouldn't lurk, they would just leave. The fact that they browse the site at all means they're finding posts that interest/entertain them. It's entirely possible that if the banter and bickering stopped then these people would just quit coming here.

If these are guests that lurk, chances are they are bots. SMF software in general still has a Russian bot issue. If they make an account and post, chances are their posts are not approved to be viewed.
