Did you learn any foreign languages in high school/college?

I'm currently a senior in high school and am learning german.

Also, sophmores and seniors get to go on a 2 week trip to germany for $3000. I didn't go as a sophmore so this will be the year.

Learned some Spanish in HS because colleges in the area required it.

Did French in sophomore and junior year. I'd gotten pretty good at it, considering that I'd never become even near fluent in anther language despite ample opportunity to do so.

Passed them both with an A.

I took Spanish in high school but retained no knowledge about the language. Kind of hard to when you never use it.

I did German for 3 years in high school, it was a lot of fun actually

Had to stop doing it when it clashed with another subject that was more important to me with what I wanted to do though, I really enjoyed it too...

I learned Frog to a very very tenuous degree of fluency, I can understand most of what someone says if they talk to me in french and I can usually respond but uh... a few years of intentionally mangling the language with my friend instead of speaking it properly has.... ruined it.

Example
'Je me go-ascendre-up-le stairs oui oui'

So uh I'd say that's borderline useless.

I also had spanish lessons but our teacher ended up like absolutely fucking miserable midway through the second year of spanish and that completely killed any enjoyment/interest for the whole class (not just me) so I dropped that nice and quickly.

The only one that I learned and I've made an effort to continue studying/practicing is GRORIOUS NIPPONSKI DESU because they offered that as a GCSE as part of an exchange program with a nearby school. And before anyone cries filthy weeb, amusingly enough when I was taking the lessons I straight up hated anime. Now that I am infected, you can cry weeb etc.

I studied Italian, French and Japanese for a couple of years. Retained absolutely nothing from those classes.

English is the only language you'll ever need unless you want a language related career - which is something I'm not interested in - or you plan to move to a country that doesn't really speak English.

I mean, I'm all for culture and stuff but why can't the entire planet just use English as a universal language? It would make things soooo much easier.

I did 4 years of German in high skool, and I'm on my second year of German in college. Plus I'm a German minor, but mostly because the college screwed me over my first semester.
