Goodness gracious, great balls of lightning!
Now some would say that its silly that the Chicago Cubs are cursed and just a coincidence that they've been a terrible team throughout most of their history, but there are some things that have happened that made people rethink about this.
In the 1969 season, the Cubs were the favorites to win it all. Towards the end of the season, a black cat ran onto the field during a game and went near Chicago's dugout. After that game, the Cubs would go on to lose 20 games out of 26 that were left and lost the division lead to the New York Mets who would go on to win the World Series that year.
This next thing didn't actually involve the Cubs directly, but in the 1986 World Series it was the New York Mets vs the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox were 1 out away from their first championship in 68 years. For a few seconds on the titantron, the prompt "Congratulations to the 1986 World Series Champions, Boston Red Sox!" appeared by mistake. After that, a groundball from a Mets batter went towards the first basemen of the Red Sox, Bill Buckner. The ball went under his glove and went into the outfield, allowing a runner from 2nd base to score and tie the game. Bill Buckner used to play for the Cubs and he was wearing a Cubs batting glove under his catching glove. The Mets would score again on a wild pitch and win the game, forcing a game 7 in which they won and became the champs yet again.
Fast forward to 2003 and the Cubs are in the playoffs again. They've reached the NLCS and were facing the Florida Marlins. In Game 6, the Cubs needed to just get 5 more outs to advance to the World Series to take on the Yankees. A foul ball was hit in left field by a Marlins player and the Cubs's left fielder was going to catch it but a fan leaned in and caught it instead. When this happened, the momentum of the game changed drastically. Next thing that happened was a double-play ball was hit to the shortstop but he fumbled the ball and all the runners were safe. The Marlins would go on to score 8 runs in the inning and win the game 8-3 and tie the series 3 games a piece. I swear, I have never heard a crowd go from super loud to super quiet like this game. I go back and watch that game and there was definitely some weird mojo going on that night and I feel bad for the fan that caught that ball. He got so many death threats and could not show his face in public after what happened. There was even an ESPN 30 for 30 special on this incident.
Now the year is 2008, 100 years after the Cubs's last championship victory, and the Cubs were statistically the best team in baseball in every category basically. They met my Dodgers(The worst team stats-wise out of any playoff team that year) in the playoffs. The Dodgers swept them in the first round and it was glorious to watch. I'll never forget that grand slam from James Loney in game 1.
Last year, the Cubs reach the playoffs again and win against the Cardinals in the first round. The Cubs met the Mets in the NLCS. Daniel Murphy, a player from the Mets, ends up powering his way through Cubs pitchers and set a home-run record by a single player in the postseason. This is where it gets a little freaky. Murphy was the name of the goat that was kicked out of the Cubs's game in 1945 when the owner of the goat placed the curse on the Cubs. The Mets swept the Cubs and advanced to the World Series in which they lost to the Royals. Daniel Murphy's performance in the World Series was horrific and nothing compared to his NLCS performance.
And finally here we are in the 2016 season. In the second game of the season, the Cubs lost one of their players to injury until next year and he played a key part of their 2015 season and postseason. Despite that the Cubs are statistically the best team in baseball, much like the 2008 team. We still have this month and September to see how things will shape up so this will be interesting.
Anyways so yeah, that's the Curse of the Billy Goat. I wondered if any of you actually think the Cubs are cursed or anything or if this is just all shocking coincidences that they've unfortunately gone through.
I just wanted to share this because I love the rich history that baseball has to offer.

The sports gods just love shitting on some teams and sucking others' dicks for years at a time tbh
I shit you not, half the losses I've seen at work since 2011 have come as a direct result of a single bad ball bounce or some impossible coast to coast play the other team pulled out of their asses and have never replicated against a different team.
On the other hand, the dominant team in the AFL the last 4 years has been constantly rewarded with restricted umpire sight lines during borderline criminal acts in play, and absurd game-winning goals in the last 10 seconds of play that no coach would ever look at as a 'good' strategy to implement as a common goal setup.
Sports make me salty as fuck 100% of the time and I love them so much tbh

Excuse me, I'm full of dog poison
The Detroit lions are a great example of what bad calls can do to a decent team. I believe there are three rules in the NFL that the lions are responsible for, rules that hindered the lions.
I don't think they're cursed tho, it's just that no one expects them to do well so when they do they get bad calls against them.
