Now that the Tumblrinas have gotten what they wanted, they're still blind to the problems right in their own face. They got their movie, they got to insult people illegitimately, and their movie is bombing before even launching. Insulting people with legitimate claims like how shitty the animation, acting, and jokes look for being nothing more than sexist misogynists, and you wonder why no one wants to see it?

"B-But Ian! Word of mouth will spread that the movie is good after its initial opening weekend!"

It's kind of funny in the above comments no one's even trying to defend it with it not being the opening weekend yet, they're already jumping to deranged conspiracy theories of women-haters boycotting the movie. As for the fate of this obvious train wreck after this weekend? Yeah, not like it's sandwiched in front of a movie with far more appeal and a director that (while ALSO being progressive in his own right) isn't a self-loathing misandrist...

Memes aside, say what you will about TNG but at least it had some semblance of exploration and diplomacy. Abrams' rendition is literally just Star Wars with a Trek skin. There's no intrigue. No soul to it. The essence of Roddenberry is gone.

What you're seeing is the opposite end of the spectrum from TNG as far as Gene's "Vision" goes. Where you might think that maybe the new movies don't have enough of his vision, TNG has way too fucking much of it. Don't get me wrong, I like TNG but God damn does it try so hard to always shove the theme of "PUSHING HUMANITIES BOUNDARIES" in every single episode and movie (except for Nemesis I mean Jesus Fucking Christ what a mess). Whereas the the movies for TOS and the later seasons (minus The Motion Picture) is more lenient on his vision and is ultimately what made the series successful enough to spawn spin-offs such as TNG, Voyager, and DS9.

Out of all the spin-offs we got, Enterprise was as close as we were going to get to the original and Sci-Fy dropped the ball with scheduling. The closest thing in TNG we get to "classic" Star Trek is Generations and that's only because Kirk is there to do a reality check on the whole "PUSHING HUMANITIES BOUNDARIES" theme. In essence, gene himself lacked his own vision and that ultimately why The Motion Picture failed despite having what was a good setup.

Any Star Trek fan that hates the new movies clearly forgot what made it popular in the first place (that and being the first in a long line of sci-fi themed shows with an 48 minute long episode run time). And that the theme of man kind's place in the stars is a backdrop to whatever is going on in the forefront of the story, and that's what Beyond is shaping to look like with its setting.
