We're going on Sunday to see him, and we'll probably take him home that day if we like him (the shelter's pretty far away and we don't want to have to do another trip if we're sure about him).

Any tips for preparing a house for a new dog? We're gonna buy a kennel and a couple beds and a bunch of toys, but this will be my first dog on my own.

Also post pics of your dog if you want.

What happened to numero uno?

Also that dog looks nice, fantastic coat

I really liked her but my wife didn't. And she was kind of old too -- she had started developing fatty tumors, a sign of advanced age --  so we decided it wasn't a good match.

My dog shit so much in the house when she first arrived
So take him out frequently

My dog bites so much shit in the house but she's young and teething so your dog might not be as bad
But make sure to watch your shit

Fur gets fucking everywhere man

The healthy man does not torture others - generally it is the tortured who turn into torturers.
Adorable.

"I hereby declare we have spaghetti Tuesdays every Wednesday."
Groom her every day, sleep lightly, make sure you find out what they feeding her at the shelter and slowly transition to RAW food because raw feeding is the healthiest and makes them poop less and express their own anal glands and makes their coat shiny and stuff.

If she's ever home alone, try crate training her (or if your kennel has a door you can lock) so that she feels safe and won't go on an anxiety tornado of destruction.

Goodness gracious, great balls of lightning!
My dog outside is very old. We've had her ever since I was 5. I think she might be deaf too. Sometimes when I call her by her name or make noises to get her attention, she won't react to it. But other than that, she can still run around and jump which makes me happy to see her do that.

My other dog is here inside with me. He's a pomeranian and we've had him for a little over 11 years now. He may annoy me sometimes, but I still love that little shit.

Ok tips time.

First off this doggo doesn't look like it's going to die in 48 hours, and the coat is pretty top notch. As for preparing the house, make it easy for him to understand the basic layout of the place.  If possible, keep the dog bowl in the kitchen and try and sync your eating scheduals over time. Keep the beds near your own bedroom or in cornered/covered places like under a table or someshit.

You'll also want to show your dog whatever outside space you have, and start setting the boundaries of where  he can roam. If your dog happens to take a massive piss or shit while outside, reward him in some way and start associating a word with going to the bathroom.

Make sure both you and the wife use the same words/commands when interacting with the lad, and try and focus more on the phonetic pronunciation of the word rather than the word itself. Give each your commands a distinct sound.

And as for the toys, have him interact with a max of one or two. You wouldn't want an emotional inflation of possession in the dog. You can introduce him to new toys as time goes on, but don't overwhelm the dog. Make sure he is comfortable with you confiscating the toys at any moment and keep on eye/test his temperament before you buy him.

Edit: find out what food the dog is currently eating and if you want, gradually make the transition to whatever cuisine you choose.

Where do you get your raw meat from?

Do any of you dog owners (or your parents) buy pet insurance? He's apparently perfectly healthy and he's still young so I don't really see a need, but I'm on the fence.

How old is he, how old does the breed get, and do you see yourself keeping him?

If he's young and still has a long ass time left, definitely get it.

My only regret now-a-days is that we never decided to get insurance for my dog

Local butchers. Though organs are pretty expensive to get a hold of.
Trying to find a game hunter in the area but not much luck. I've thought about breeding rabbits but I couldn't bring myself to butcher the babies when the time comes to "harvest". :s
