how close have you been to dying?

i was having this conversation a little bit ago and i came to realize that i've probably gotten closer than the average person to dancing with the devil.

when i was about a year old, my brother and i were hanging out near the pool while my mom was cooking on the grill. apparently i stumbled in and was floating underwater for at least a couple minutes while my brother, who was only 2 years old, was laughing at me. luckily my mom checked on us at the right time and managed to jump in and save me before i drowned to death.

maybe not even a year after that i fell into the pool and almost drowned again, but this time nobody was around except for my Aunt who was watching me while my parents were working. she said it was the scariest moment of her life; i'm just wondering what was going through my head at the time...

And last year a group of friends and i traveled downtown to go to this huge zombie-themed block party in the city called ZombiCon. As the party was winding down somebody pulled a gun and opened fire into the crowd. i was maybe 200 feet or so away from the shooter and can distinctly remember hearing 5 vicious pops from the gunfire, turning around and seeing somebody lying on the floor with a pool of blood starting to form...that was easily the most terrified i have ever felt in my life

plus there was my failed suicide attempt in high school but i don't like talking about that

once when i was ten i was going like 20 mph down a hill on my bike and i hit the rear brakes a little too hard and i very nearly lost control and went flying

immediately to my right was a ditch-type place filled with large, jagged rocks; i imagine crashing there at that speed, even with a helmet on, would've fucked me up pretty bad

oh and i was also born being strangled by my own umbilical cord

I was almost in a tornado when I was a year or so old.

And I've nearly been run over quite a bit.

I also almost fell of a cliff.

Vien reminded me that I almost died from Pneumonia around the age of two.

My brother wasn't a cunt when I was younger, and he saved me from drowning when I was 5-6.
Ushan reminded me that a tornado formed over my school during a fly-in event. My sophomore year was a bitch.

I also got tboned by a cop who was going ~80 mph, it killed his dog but I was fine

I looked at a black guy wrong once. No clue how I wasn't shot.
Three very near misses at highway speeds on the motorcycle. (fucking cager's fault all three) One I don't even know I avoided.

Not from being injured or having some illness.

Was with a friend in a car once at a stoplight that turned green. Friend felt like he shouldn't go just yet and wouldn't you know some semi truck that tried to run a yellow light and didn't make it came skidding across the intersection right were we would have been if my friend had gone.

Been shocked by the mains ~~twice~~ three times. This isn't America's nice and friendly 110 Volts, 240 really fucking stings. First time I was about 2 and was sitting in a puddle (I used to live in a shitty leaky house in a bog), and the water apparently connected to the electricity. Parents were nearby and saved me, somehow.

Second time was two or three years ago, flipped a switch for the outside lights in my house during a heavy storm, the switch was wet and I wasn't paying attention. Was able to spaz myself off the switch and fall over.

Third time was last year. Spark button on a gas cooker at my rented house stopped working and I tried to unscrew the panel to fix it (it had broken before and just needed a spring to be re-positioned so the button would work). Used my Swiss army knife to get the screws out and fork-out the spring, accidentally hit the wire... or whatever the electrical component of the sparker is, spazzed, dropped the knife and fell over again.

Oh, and I was nearly hit by a car after cycling out of a path into a road. My stupid fault.

Otherwise, I don't think I've been exposed to much mortal danger.

Big rig almost crashed into us on the highway a few months ago. Thankfully my mom saw it in time and we got out of the way.

Was a passenger in a car that crashed into a utility pole going 110. Car was mangled, but 5 passengers were all okay other than some scrapes.

Had 3 oak trees fall on my house last year.

Thats about it. Been close, but not as close as some people. I thank God everyday!
